There is incredible progress in funding high growth firms in Africa, in 2021 alone, Briter bridges estimated $4.9bn in funding. That said, these figures are greatly skewed when you narrow down to native and locally domiciled companies. This figure diminishes further when you consider the amount of funding made at an early stage. This trajectory in financing is further reinforced by perception of investors. For instance a lot of funding went towards Fintech and has been the same for years. This appetite for fintech while premised on the success of mobile pe*******on and mobile money ubiquity in Africa overshadows other industries that are innovating new markets or potentially scalable companies.
