Today, Ugandans in Germany held a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with Ugandans back home especially during a period marked by sham elections, internet shutdowns, extrajudicial killings, abductions, and widespread human rights violations.

While the internet was shut down, people were killed. Elections were rigged. Voices in the political space were imprisoned or silenced.

Uganda is no longer safe under dictatorship. This reality has been witnessed repeatedly.
From the diaspora, we stand with those at home who cannot freely speak, protest, or vote without fear.

We thank the German government for upholding human rights and allowing Ugandans even in the diaspora to freely assemble and speak out.

Back home, speaking is criminalized. Peaceful protest is met with abductions, torture, and death.

Silence is not an option.

Uganda is violating its Constitution & international law. Opposition leaders & citizens are jailed without trial some for 5+ years. Dr. Kizza Besigye & Hajji Obeid Lutale have spent 10 months in detention, denied bail despite urgent health needs. Sam Mugunya remains disappeared since his abduction.
We demand their immediate release.
