🇺🇦 This is how history is made: Ukrainian athlete Marta Fiedina has become the first person who has won a gold medal at the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup event held in Markham, Canada, from Mar. 16-18, 2023.

Performing to Ukrainian song “The Magic Violine” on the event’s first day, the Ukrainian mermaid became the best in Women Solo Technical.

The first-ever World Cup gold medal was not the last for Ukraine. On the last day, the Ukrainian acrobatics team won one more gold medal, and two silvers were added by twin sisters Maryna and Vladyslava Aleksiivas in Women Duet Technical and Women Duet Free.

On the medal table, Ukraine stands third after Spain, second, and Japan, first.
“We are so appreciative to see and feel the support from our country. We are blessed and grateful and are happy to see how strong our country is,” Marina Aleksiiva shared her feelings.

Kyiv is already in full swing preparing for the New Year celebrations. Therefore, we have preapared our Top-5 locations on the topic - where to look for New Year's mood in Kyiv:)

✨ Sofia Square.

A place for fans of noisy companies and entertainment - Sofia Square is traditionally home to the country's main Christmas tree. In honour of the new 2022, it will shine with 20,000 red and gold balls. This year's main topic is traditional Ukrainian Christmas with nativity scenes. Therefore, there is no better place if you want to plunge into the whirlpool of Ukrainian Christmas traditions.

✨Roshen Winter Village.

For ice skating lovers, we have selected the most beautiful location with a skating rink - Roshen Winter Village. In addition to ice skating, you can visit food courts, watch 3D light shows and illuminations, and take a tour around the chocolate factory.

✨ "Winter country" (VDNH)

A great place to immerse yourself in childhood - Winter country will welcome you with 20 New Year's locations crowned by a fantasy tree. Around it - photo zones with various fairy tales. And there, you'll have a skating rink too, but a loooot bigger - about 2,500 square meters. A New Year's musical will take place here every day.

✨Dobropark

If you want to get away from the city's hustle and be in the fresh air - Dobropark is what you need. It is a New Year's location 30 km away from Kyiv. Attractions, which are usually located near the main Christmas tree of the country, this year are placed there, occupying about 800 square meters. Dobrochar (Ukrainian Santa Claus) with charming helpers - elves Dobryky will be waiting for kids there.

✨Kontraktova square

Another Christmas tree is placed here, as well as the residence of St. Nicholas. The location is surrounded by illuminated figures from children's fairy tales and cartoons. And, of course, here you can ride on the most beautiful Ferris wheel in the capital.

And what location is your favourite?

Did you know that one of the wealthiest people in the world, Elon Musk, was inspired by Ukrainian aircraft designer Serhii Korolyov?

Korolyov is considered to be the founder of practical cosmonautics: under his leadership, the first launch vehicles were created, the first artificial Earth satellite was launched, and for the first time in history, a person flew to space.

A year ago, he spoke with the Korolyov's family and wrote on his Twitter, "He was one of the very best." And this week, he invited Korolyov's grandson and great-grandson to a meeting at SpaceX's office in California. Afterwards, the grandson of the prominent Ukrainian aircraft designer, Andrii Korolyov, wrote, "Incredibly grateful to Elon for his hospitality and our unforgettable almost-hour-long friendly conversation. A special thank you to Elon's team for the extremely impressive tour of the SpaceX facility and for the chance for my son and me to see the production line of rockets, engines and CrewDragon with our own eyes. Keep moving the world forward, Mr Musk! 😊🚀"

On May 8, Ukraine, like all Europe and the world, marks Remembrance and Reconciliation Day, or Victory Day in Europe.

On this day, people do not talk about victories, losses, military achievements or failures. Today, humanity remembers those fallen who gave their lives to restore peace, secure life for their families, states and peoples. World War II marks the bloodiest, most inhuman, cruel and terrible time in human history. Imperialist regimes have decided that they can neglect lives to achieve geopolitical benefits. However, as it always happens, the light was stronger than darkness.

So let's remember today, 80 million people whose lives were cut short by violence and inhumanity. Let us not forget the dead, the missing, torn from their beloved ones, who died on the battlefields during the war. And in memory of them, let's try never again to repeat the horrors of war for the sake of our common bright future.

It's terrible to learn that today Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, died at 99. We express our sincere condolences, extend our thoughts and best wishes to the Royal family and people of Great Britain in this dark time.

Our audience may not know that Prince Philip visited Kyiv once. It happened in 1973 during the European Triathlon Championship. Prince Philip flew from London to Boryspil Airport at the helm of a personal plane. It was not a passenger liner, but a converted military jet.

Moscow was to host the Championship. But according to one version, members of the Royal family refused to go to the capital of the USSR. The reason is Philip`s mother, Princess Alice. She was the niece of the Russian Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, who was killed by the Bolsheviks in 1918. In order not to disrupt the competition, the championship was moved to Kyiv.

During his visit, Prince Philip studied Kyiv from the sky, noted that the beautiful river divides it into two parts, and the beaches in the center of the metropolis are a miracle.

On the 9th March, 1814, one of the most talented and famous poets in Ukraine and the world, Taras Shevchenko, was born. Today we want to tell you little-known facts about a person so monumental that he is compared to Goethe, Cervantes and Byron in the world.

- Shevchenko was 47 when he died. The first 24 years he spent as a serf and the last ten years he lived in exile. While all his poetry featured Ukraine and Ukrainian people, Shevchenko spent about three years of his mature life in his native Ukraine.

- Shevchenko is often painted as a moustache man in a hat and a peasant's overcoat. But young Shevchenko dressed quite fashionably. Thus, in his diary, Taras was happy to describe his purchase of a Mackintosh coat for 100 rubles. The only clothing that the poet disgusted was a soldier's uniform.

- Shevchenko's «Zapovit», known to everybody in Ukraine since school, was translated into over 100 languages (comparatively, J. K. Rawling's «Harry Potter» series were translated into approximately 70 languages). However, Shevchenko's father speaking of the own testament, ordered not to give Taras anything from his household, citing «My son does not need any of my property; the legacy of mine will mean nothing to him or be of no help..."

- Very often, you can hear fake information that Shevchenko was a drunkard. From the memoirs of one of Shevchenko's closest friends, Mykola Kostomarov, we learn that he had never seen Shevchenko drunk, but he did like adding a rum to his tea. Shevchenko himself condemned drunkenness and even ridiculed alcoholism in his works, showing it as a shameful social phenomenon often associated with human grief, a sea of tears, the crippled fate of women and children.

- In addition to portraits, landscapes, Shevchenko, familiar with European art, also painted naked nature. Until recently, Shevchenko naked self-portrait was kept under lock and key. Both the tsarist and Soviet regimes imposed taboos on the "seditious" self-portrait.

Currently, Ukraine is modernizing and rethinking the image of Taras Shevchenko. However, his image always remains prominent and is always very close to each of us.

Happy birthday, Taras! 🎂

In the greenhouse of the Fomin botanical garden in Kyiv the oldest Liviston palm tree in Europe has blossomed. "Granny" is over 200 years old and seemingly it remembers that now it`s summer in its homeland in Australia:) The height of the palm is 35 meters.

Pure beauty! 🌴

VISIT OF MAIA SANDU

On January 12, an official visit to Ukraine was made by newly elected President of Moldova Maia Sandu. The meeting with President of Ukraine Zelensky put an end to a 4-year pause in the highest-level relations, which featured in the Ukrainian-Moldavian ties under the former president of Moldova Igor Dodon.

Relaunch of the relations started majorly – by establishing the Council of the Presidents, who share a common vision of the European future of both states and a common threat on the part of Russia. The Presidents agreed on the building of Chisinau – Kyiv highway and a border bridge crossing over the Dniester river, which will bypass Transnistria occupied by Russia and accelerate the transit of Ukrainian goods to the Balkans.

President Sandu conquered the hearts of Ukrainians by her “Slava Ukraini!” (from Ukr “Glory to Ukraine!”), a greeting she voiced at the Mariinsky Palace, the official residency of the Ukrainian Presidents.
