CAN POLICE SHOOT YOUR DOG? 🐶⚖️
Police enter your yard.
Your dog runs toward them.
Can they shoot it?
Not automatically.
The real question is whether the dog posed an immediate threat — and whether the force used was justified in the circumstances.
Because:
BARKING ≠ ATTACKING.
An excited dog is not automatically an attacking dog. But if a dog presents a serious and immediate danger, the legal analysis can change.
That’s why the key question is not simply:
“Was there a dog?”
It’s:
“Was the force justified?”
And that matters because your dog may be treated as property in law…
but to your family, your dog is family. ❤️🐾
💬 If police enter a private yard and a dog runs toward them, what should have to happen before lethal force is justified?
