หลักการพิจารณาวิธีเลือกห้องในคอนโด เริ่มตั้งแต่การดูผังการวางห้องที่แต่ละชั้นอาจดูเหมือนๆ กันไปหมด ยกเว้นชั้นที่มีสาธารณูปโภคต่างๆ เช่น สระว่ายน้ำ สนามเทนนิส ห้องฟิตเนส หรืออื่นๆ แต่มีหลักการเบื้องต้น ในการเลือกเช่น
1. ข้อแรก ห้องที่ไม่ควรเลือกได้แก่ห้องที่ตรงกับบันได หรือ ลิฟต์หรือ ห้องคอนโดตรงกับทางเดินหรือทางแยกของชั้นในคอนโดนั้นๆ เพราะถือว่าเป็นตำแหน่งที่จะต้องเกิดความวุ่นวาย ทำให้ผู้ที่อาศัยในห้องคอนโดนั้น อยู่อย่างไม่สงบ แต่ในทางฮวงจุ้ยอธิบายว่าตำแหน่งนี้จะให้ความรู้สึกที่เป็นลบมากกว่าบวก เพราะเวลาคนมองเห็นป้ายทางหนีไฟแล้วจะรู้สึกถึงความกลัว กังวล ฉุกเฉิน คนที่อยู่ห้องที่ติดกับทางหนีไฟจะต้องเดินผ่านหรือมองเห็นทุกวัน ทางจิตวิทยาบอกว่าความรู้สึกดังกล่าวจะฝังเข้าไปในจิตใต้สำนึกซึ่งเป็นความ รู้สึกในด้านลบ ยิ่งในทางฮวงจุ้ยด้วยแล้วคำว่า "ทางหนีไฟ" สื่อถึงโชคลาภที่วิ่งหนีออกไป ทำให้ห้องนั้นปราศจากโชคลาภ
2. สำหรับตำแหน่งที่ควรเลือกนั้น ตัวเลือกอันดับแรกๆ ที่ผู้ซื้อคอนโดให้ความสนใจมากกว่าคือห้องมุม เพราะให้ความรู้สึกทีสบายกว่าห้องที่อยู่ตรงกลาง ทั้งในด้านการใช้ประโยชน์จากห้อง การรับแสงแดดหรือลมที่เข้ามาในห้องได้มากกว่าเพราะเข้าคอนโดได้ ทั้งสองด้าน อย่างไรก็ดีการเลือกนั้นก็ไม่ใช่ว่าเลือกห้องมุมห้องไหนก็ได้ โดยหลักการการเลือกนั้น ทิศทางของห้องก็เป็นส่วนที่สำคัญโดยห้องมุมที่ดีที่สุดคือห้องที่อยู่ทางทิศ ตะวันออกกับทิศใต้ เพราะทิศตะวันออกจะได้รับประโยชน์ในด้านแสงเข้าถึงได้ดี ส่วนทิศใต้จะได้รับประโยชน์ในด้านลมที่จะทำให้ลมเข้าและห้องไม่ร้อน โดยแดดจะเข้าเฉพาะตอนเช้า ห้องมุมที่ถือว่าแย่คือห้องมุมทางทิศตะวันตกกับทิศเนือ เพราะเป็นห้องที่รับแดดเต็มๆ แถมยังอับลมอีกด้วย ส่วนห้องมุมที่แย่รองลงมาก็คือห้องมุมทางทิศตะวันตกกับทิศใต้ ซึ่งห้องนี้ถือเป็นจุดที่รับแสงแดดและลมมาก โดยเฉพาะลมจากทิศตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ ถ้าห้องอยู่ชั้นสูงๆ อาจเปิดประตูหน้าต่างไม่ได้เพราะลมเข้ามายังห้องในคอนโดแรงมาก
