Thailand’s property sector is beginning to see a new opportunity emerging from the conflict in the Middle East, with wealthy buyers from the region showing greater interest in ultra-luxury homes and condominiums in Thailand.
Amid global uncertainty and prolonged regional tensions, developers believe Thailand is increasingly being viewed as a safe destination for long-term residence by foreigners seeking security, stability and a high quality of life.

Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Director-General of the Department of Business Development (DBD) under the Commerce Ministry, said the department had held consultations and gathered feedback from more than 17 leading law firms to exchange views and brainstorm measures to strengthen the prevention and suppression of the use of Thai nationals as nominees for foreign investors conducting business in Thailand.
The department will compile opinions on possible approaches and their potential impact to support the drafting of the “Office of the Central Company and Partnership Registration Order No. …/2026 on the rules and procedures for registration in cases involving amendments to designate foreigners as partners in partnerships or as authorised signatories in limited companies”.
The aim is to ensure the new rules are appropriate and effective, and to further strengthen efforts to prevent and address nominee arrangements across various businesses.

Officials in Phuket are working to resolve delays in renewing and issuing work permits for more than 130,000 foreign workers after businesses raised concerns about the growing backlog.

The delays are linked to a nationwide transition to the digital e-WorkPermit system introduced in October 2025, which local authorities say has struggled to cope with the island’s large foreign workforce.

Provincial officials have ordered urgent measures, including assigning additional officers to assist applicants and coordinating with employers to speed up processing while monitoring the outsourced system’s performance.

An Irish man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Hua Hin Provincial Court after posing as a deceased person and using a fake passport to enter and exit Thailand 28 times.

Paul Noel Casey, who had been on the run for more than a decade over drug trafficking and money-laundering charges in Australia, was arrested at a hotel in Hua Hin in August 2024 following an investigation involving Thai immigration police and the Australian Federal Police.

Authorities say Casey used the identity of an Irish citizen who died in 2016 to obtain a passport, allowing him to travel in and out of Thailand undetected for years while living on Koh Phangan.

The case was uncovered after information from foreign media reports and members of the Irish community led investigators to compare fingerprint records with international databases, confirming his real identity.

The Hua Hin Provincial Court has now sentenced him to 218 months in prison for passport forgery and related immigration offences.

Police in Songkhla have arrested a 56-year-old man for the fatal burning of a Siberian Husky named Molly. The suspect confessed to pouring petrol on the dog and setting it alight after it allegedly killed his fighting c***s.

The incident occurred after the dog escaped its home on 13 February, leading to its discovery with severe burns two days later. Despite receiving veterinary treatment at Prince of Songkla University, the animal died from its injuries on 20 February.

Authorities have charged the suspect with property damage and animal cruelty, which carries a potential two-year prison sentence. Local welfare organisations and the public provided an 87,000 baht reward to the investigating team following the arrest.

A British man may face the death penalty after allegedly shooting his wife at a hotel in Thailand.

Anthony James Condron, 56, is accused of shooting Pattanee Urapanom, 43, in the head with a 9mm handgun at the resort where they were staying before fleeing the scene yesterday morning. Police discovered her body at Janpanom Farm Stay in Maha Sarakham at around 11am local time.

Condron, from Witham, Essex, was later found smoking on a hotel balcony about 80 miles away in the neighbouring province of Khon Kaen. He had allegedly planned to flee to the coastal town of Pattaya but was arrested after armed police surrounded the building and negotiated his surrender.
