Protecting your loved ones goes beyond providing for them today—it’s about ensuring absolute peace of mind for the road ahead.

Recently, Magis Legacy had the privilege of conducting a series of educational talks on Wills and Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) for the dedicated team at Stolt-Nielsen Singapore.

It was incredibly encouraging to see such an engaged group asking sharp questions about how to safeguard their families and make clear, legally binding provisions for the future. Many people put off estate planning, thinking it’s too early or too complex, but having a proper Will and LPA in place is one of the most responsible and empowering steps you can take.

A big thank you to the management at Stolt-Nielsen Singapore for inviting us and for prioritising the long-term well-being and life preparedness of your staff!

If you’d like us to bring a similar workshop to your organisation, let’s connect and we’d be happy to swing by!

The biggest worry for any parent with a child with special needs is: “Who will take care of them when I’m gone?” ❤️

You want to leave them enough money to live comfortably, but handing over a large amount of cash can create more problems than it solves—like losing essential subsidies or mismanagement.

The solution? A Special Needs Trust. It acts as a safety net, managed by someone you trust, to pay for their therapy, care, and quality of life—for as long as they need.

When we talk about wealth, most people focus on how to grow it. Few stop to ask: What happens after I’m gone?

It’s uncomfortable, yes. But as the Straits Times recently highlighted in its article, unclear or incomplete wills can cause real heartache — not because of greed, but because of ambiguity.

Read Here 📖: https://www.straitstimes.com/business/invest/how-to-keep-your-wealth-from-going-to-the-wrong-people

Many assume that once a will is written, everything is settled.
But reality tells another story.

The ST article points out that if you wish to exclude someone from receiving your assets — or want specific distribution details to be honoured — you MUST make those intentions explicit in your will.

Otherwise, the courts may interpret things differently from what you intended. And when emotions are high, even families who once shared meals together can find themselves sitting across courtrooms instead.

It’s not about who’s right — it’s about clarity that could’ve prevented the conflict in the first place.

🧭 The Unspoken Truth About Wills
A will isn’t just a legal document. It’s your final conversation with the people you care about most.

It answers questions they might never dare to ask:
- Why did Mum leave more to my brother?
- Why did Dad leave this asset to a friend?
- Why wasn’t I included?

When your will is clear, there’s peace. When it’s not, there’s confusion — and sometimes, lasting hurt.

✍️ Three Lessons we can take away from the ST Article
1. Be Specific. Don’t assume others will “know what you meant.” Spell out every intention, including who should not inherit.

2. Choose Your Executor Wisely. Pick someone you trust to carry out your wishes impartially.

3. Review Regularly. Life changes — marriages, divorces, business growth, even new grandchildren — all affect how your legacy should be structured.

“When my father passed, we had wealth on paper — but no liquidity, no clarity, and no peace.”

That was how one of our clients began her story.

Her father built a successful family business from scratch. He provided everything — a home, an education, opportunities his own parents could only dream of. But when he passed suddenly, what he left behind wasn’t just assets. He left questions.
Who takes over the business? How do we pay estate taxes without selling something? What did he want for each of us?

The truth hit hard: they had spent a lifetime building wealth, but not enough time planning how to protect and pass it on.

This isn’t an isolated story.

A recent HSBC report, featured in The Business Times, found that while 81% of entrepreneurs in Singapore want to keep their business in the family, more than half have no formal succession plan.

Read Here 📖: https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/singapore/many-singapore-family-businesses-unprepared-succession-some-prefer-sell-hsbc

That means families who’ve built empires through grit and sacrifice are one illness, one accident, one misunderstanding away from watching it all unravel.

It’s not because they don’t care — it’s because legacy feels like something we can always “get to later.”Until later comes unexpectedly.

At Magis Legacy, we’ve learned this:Insurance isn’t about preparing for loss. It’s about preserving love, values, and stability when you’re no longer around to hold things together.

It can mean:
- A daughter who doesn’t have to sell the family business to pay estate taxes.
- A son who receives fair value even if he doesn’t join the company.
- A spouse who can grieve without worrying about liquidity or legal battles.

It’s not a product. It’s a promise — that your life’s work won’t unravel in the moment it’s needed most.

Legacy Planning is an act of love.
Money is easy to measure. Meaning isn’t.
Your legacy is more than numbers on a balance sheet — it’s the lessons, principles, and hopes you want to pass on.
And that requires intention, not chance.
That’s why we believe legacy planning should begin while you are still writing your story, not after it ends.

💭 At Magis Legacy we help families, entrepreneurs, and survivors design purpose-driven legacy plans that combine:
- Smart financial strategy
- Emotional clarity
- Trust and estate structures
- Long-term protection and flexibility

Because at the end of the day, legacy is not about leaving wealth — it’s about leaving wisdom, dignity, and peace.

💬 Let’s Talk About Your Legacy. If this story feels familiar — if you’ve ever wondered “Will my family be okay if I’m not around?” — let’s start that conversation.

Your legacy deserves more than good intentions. It deserves a plan.

We all hope our wishes will be followed when we’re no longer here — yet many of us leave too much unsaid.

A recent Straits Times piece reminds us: without a Will that’s crystal clear, your assets could end up going to people you didn’t intend — simply because the law fills gaps in ways you never envisioned.

📖Read Here: https://www.straitstimes.com/business/invest/how-to-keep-your-wealth-from-going-to-the-wrong-people

Here’s what a good Will should do, and what often goes wrong:

✅ What a strong Will gives you:
- Control over who inherits what, when, and how.
- Protection for dependants (children, elderly parents, or others who rely on you).
- The ability to appoint guardians, trustees, and executors you trust.
- Peace of mind — clarity for your loved ones, less chance of conflict.

⚠️ Common pitfalls you might not realise:
- Vague language: “My share equally,” or “divided fairly” — what does that mean?
- No back‑ups: What happens if a beneficiary passes away first? Or isn’t able to claim?
- Assets or properties overseas, or digital / intangible assets, being forgotten.
- Not reviewing the Will when life changes (marriage, children, divorce, new status of beneficiaries).
- Failing to name the right executor or trustee — someone who is willing, capable, and reliable.

If you don’t put these in place, the law, courts, or intestacy rules might decide for you. And that can mean outcomes that are very different from what you intended.

Think about this:
- Do you want your wishes followed… or leave it to assumptions and default legal rules?
- What legacy do you wish to leave — for your loved ones, for your values?
- And, how can you ensure your Will is strong, up‑to‑date, and properly executed?

💭At Magis Legacy, our mission is to help you write that Will with precision and care — so your wishes are protected and your family is protected too.

If you don’t have a Will yet, or haven’t reviewed yours in a few years, let’s talk. Send us a message, or call us, and let’s make sure your wishes are clearly written.

🧠 “My parent has dementia. Is it too late to update their will?”
A common — and heartbreaking — question we hear all the time.

Many assume that a dementia diagnosis means you can no longer legally make estate planning decisions.

But that’s not always true. In fact, a recent article from The Straits Times outlines 4 key conditions under which a person with dementia can still sign a valid will
📖Read Here: https://www.straitstimes.com/business/invest/4-conditions-that-allow-seniors-with-dementia-to-sign-wills

Here’s what those conditions mean in plain terms:
1. Understanding the Nature of Making a Will
The person must understand what a will is and why they're making one — that it's a legal document distributing their assets after death.

2. Knowing the Extent of Their Assets
They need to have a general understanding of what they own — properties, savings, insurance, investments, etc. Full accounting isn’t necessary, but general awareness is.

3. Recognizing the People Who Have a Claim
They must be able to identify who might expect to inherit — such as children, spouses, or dependents — and make decisions about who to include or exclude.

4. Having “Mental Capacity” at the Time of Signing
This is not about a diagnosis — it's about whether the person is lucid at the moment the will is signed. Mental capacity can fluctuate, even in dementia patients.

💭At Magis Legacy, we help families navigate these exact situations.
Estate planning isn't just about documents — it's about timing, clarity, and protecting loved ones from future disputes. And here’s how we do it:

- Sensitive capacity assessments:We work with legal and medical professionals to ensure the person’s decision-making ability is properly documented — reducing future legal challenges.

- Guidance on timing:We help identify the right window to act — before capacity declines too far, but with full legal validity.

- Family facilitation: Estate conversations can be emotional. We help mediate difficult discussions with empathy and structure.

- Dispute prevention:By documenting intentions clearly and guiding you through the right process, we help safeguard your wishes from being contested later.

🎯 Thinking of doing estate planning, but unsure if it’s too late — or too early?

Let’s talk. Whether it’s for yourself, a parent, or a spouse, we’re here to guide you through this, with compassion and clarity.

📩 Send us a message or book a no-obligation consultation.
You don’t need to have all the answers — just take the first step.
Because your legacy deserves more than paperwork — it deserves protection.

Occasional memory lapses would not disqualify anyone from making a will because such condition alone does not mean the person does not understand what he or she is doing. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.

Hong Kong just said goodbye to Lee Shau-kee, the self-made tycoon who built an empire from HK$1,000 and gave away billions in his lifetime.

📖Read more here: https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/the-tycoon-who-knew-how-to-spend-hong-kong-mourns-death-of-lee-shau-kee

Reading about his journey — from arriving in Hong Kong with just HK$1,000 to building Henderson Land and giving generously to causes and people around him — I was reminded of something simple yet profound:
👉 Wealth is temporary. Legacy is lasting.

Lee was described as “the tycoon who knew how to spend”. Not just in business, but in life. He invested with patience, gave with compassion, and planned with foresight.
It made me pause and ask myself:
* Am I building with purpose, or just building for the sake of it?
* Am I generous with what I have today, not just what I hope to have tomorrow?
* If I were gone tomorrow, would my family know not just what I left them, but also why?

💭At Magis Legacy, this is what we think about every day with our clients. Estate planning and financial planning aren’t just about documents, policies, or numbers — they’re about answering these questions honestly and structuring life so our loved ones don’t just inherit wealth, but also peace of mind.
💡 3 lessons we can all take from Lee’s life:
1. Write things down — not just assets, but intentions.
2. Plan beyond yourself — generosity isn’t only for billionaires.
3. Live your legacy now — the best inheritance is how you live and love.

Lee lived to 97. His impact will last far longer.
What kind of legacy are you creating today?

💬 If you’d like to explore how to secure and shape your own legacy, our team at Magis Legacy would be honoured to guide you.

💔 Two young siblings lost their parents in a tragic accident.

Now their future feels uncertain.
Eight-year-old Jun Xian and his little sister Xin Rou suddenly face a world without their parents—their anchors gone in a heartbeat. Their parents were permanent residents living in Singapore, but now questions loom: Who will care for them? Where will they live? What happens to their education and their sense of safety?

This heartbreaking story isn’t just news. It’s a powerful reminder that life can change in an instant—and the best way to protect those we love is to plan ahead.

What this story teaches us about planning for what matters most:

1. Protecting children means planning for the unexpected. We hope it never happens, but if tragedy strikes, are there clear plans to care for the little ones? Without this, children can be left in limbo—feeling lost and vulnerable when they need stability the most.

2. Love and goodwill are precious, but plans give them strength. The kindness of neighbors, schools, and strangers is beautiful and vital. But without clear legal arrangements—like guardianship and financial support—that kindness may not be enough to provide lasting security.

3. A child’s world is more than possessions—it’s safety, home, and belonging.Legacy planning isn’t just about money or assets. It’s about who will hold their hand, guide their schooling, and protect their future when parents can’t.

4. Planning is an act of love. It’s about facing difficult questions now so that if the worst happens, those left behind feel the care, not chaos.

💭At Magis Legacy, we walk alongside families to help turn love and hopes into clear, thoughtful plans. Plans that protect, nurture, and honor what matters most—our children.

If you’re a parent, guardian, or caregiver worried about the future, please reach out. Let’s make sure your children are cared for—no matter what life brings.

📩 Message us anytime. Because planning today is the greatest gift you can leave behind.
