A 67-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly 15 years' imprisonment for his role in the prolonged torture and culpable homicide of 19-year-old Huang Baoying in a Clementi flat.

The High Court accepted that while the man participated in the abuse, he had the least involvement among the three individuals involved and was heavily influenced by a rigid group hierarchy and coercion from his co-accused. The murder trials for the victim's brother and their MLM coach are still pending before the courts.

If you or anyone you know is trapped in an abusive environment, control hierarchy, or facing violence, please know that help is available. You can submit an anonymous inquiry through the link in our bio for legal guidance.

Disputes over inherited real estate are among the most common issues faced by beneficiaries. When one party wishes to liquidate their portion of an estate but the remaining co-owners refuse, the law provides clear mechanisms to prevent a permanent deadlock.

Through cooperative mediation, parties can structure a formal buyout, enabling one beneficiary to waive their rights in exchange for the fair market value of their share.

However, should family negotiations fail, an affected party maintains the right to file a court application to compel the sale of the property, ensuring their economic shares are realized pursuant to the law.

Can we get a divorce while being pregnant?

The short answer is yes! You can finalize a divorce at any time even when you are pregnant!

Here is what you need to know about how pregnancy affects the process:

Iddah Period Extension: Under Islamic law, the Iddah period is typically 3 months. However, if you are pregnant, this period is extended for the entire duration of your pregnancy.

Maintenance: Because a woman cannot remarry during Iddah, she cannot yet become another person’s responsibility. Therefore, the ex-husband remains legally responsible for providing maintenance for the wife throughout the entire extended Iddah period until the pregnancy ends.

Does Insurance override Faraid

Understanding how insurance nominations interact with Faraid is essential for your estate planning!

Here is what you need to know about insurance nominations:

Nomination Power: Similar to CPF, making a specific nomination for your insurance policy is key.

Overriding Faraid: According to a fatwa by MUIS, a valid insurance nomination removes those specific assets from the pool available for Faraid distribution.

Intentional Distribution: The assets will be distributed exactly as the policyholder intended.

How does a Will works for Muslims in Singapore?

Here is a simple breakdown:
Wasiat vs. Will: They are the same thing. While non-Muslims follow the Wills Act, Muslim estates follow the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA).
The Rule: Muslim's assets must be handled according to Muslim law.
The Challenge: "Muslim law" isn't strictly defined in our written laws. Because of this, the Family Court usually follows the Shariah Court’s inheritance certificate, which is based on Faraid.
The Gap: Until laws are updated to clearly include other tools like Hibah or Nuzriah, there remains an imbalance in how estates are managed.

Plan ahead to ensure your loved ones are protected!

Ever wondered why a court order might list "zero" for mutaah, Iddah, or child maintenance? It often comes down to jurisdiction and global settlements. While the Syariah Court can order maintenance, enforcement typically happens in Family Court. Furthermore, "zero" payments may indicate that these amounts were packaged into other assets, like the division of a house, to ensure a "clean break."
