Our Director, Nadia Moynihan, was recently invited to Goodenough College in London to speak at the New York State Bar Association's Global Conference on a panel about the legal implications of the shift to remote working, comparing the laws of Singapore, England & Wales, Ireland and New York. The key takeaway was that employers need to think carefully about their exposure to foreign legal regulation of their employment relationships with employees who relocate to other countries while working remotely.

As part of the 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, our director, Nadia Moynihan, will be speaking at a virtual event held by SAHR, a non-profit body that supports human rights defenders across the globe. Nadia will be speaking on workplace sexual harassment, specifically sharing strategies on drafting more effective protection and cease and desist orders as well as settlement agreements outside court. She will also discuss the importance of fair grievance-handling procedures across various jurisdictions that balance the rights of both complainant and the alleged wrongdoer. Our Director, Nadia Moynihan, delivered two workshops this week organised by REL Alliance to two groups of executives in Singapore. The first was on practical legal contracting principles and practice and the second was on tenancy agreements.

Legal knowledge should not be the exclusive preserve of the legal profession. The more the business community know about managing their legal risk, the better a position they will be in when they do have to come to us with a problem.

Great to see our Director, Nadia Moynihan, flying the flag for Singapore and the firm at the American Bar Association in Washington D.C. last week. She gave a talk on trusts and cross-border divorce together with three other panelists from various countries. She also brought back valuable perspectives on a variety of legal issues from what was shared by other speakers and attendees at the conference, which will enrich the depth and quality of the service we can provide to our clients from around the world.

Our Director, Nadia Moynihan, recently delivered a two day training course for property agents on property law in Singapore and, in particular, how it interacts with commercial leases / tenancy agreements. The training included common problems caused by poor tenancy agreement clause drafting and explored several hypothetical problem scenarios and proposed solutions for them. The main takeaway was that there is no substitute for a professionally drafted tenancy agreement, but that a litigation lawyer can often be useful in resolving tenancy disputes that cannot be otherwise avoided.

Our Director, Nadia Moynihan, will deliver a two day training course for human resources and in-house legal professionals in Singapore on 26 and 27 May 2022. The first day will focus on avoiding and resolving employment law disputes under Singapore law. The second day will deal with the prevention and disciplining of harassment in the workplace as well as harm mitigation strategies when harassment does occur. We are pleased to congratulate our Director, Nadia Moynihan, on her admission to the roll of solicitors of England & Wales! Nadia recently passed all of the exams required by the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme for admission to the roll of solicitors there.

In light of the amount of cross-border work undertaken by the firm, Nadia's deepened understanding of the legal context of a jurisdiction on which Singapore draws for the development of its own jurisprudence will significantly enhance how we serve all our clients in Singapore, especially those with a presence or with interests in the UK.

Our Director, Nadia Moynihan, recently delivered a training session on how to successfully negotiate a tenancy agreement in Singapore, for PrimeTime Business and Professional Women's Association. During the session, she shared some pitfalls to avoid and clauses to include. If you anticipate entering into a tenancy agreement, it is highly advisable to engage a lawyer to draft or amend it. The small up-front cost of doing so can result in significant cost savings down the road if a tenancy dispute arises, as they so frequently do.

Our Director, Nadia Moynihan, recently delivered a talk to the American Bar Association International Law Section on the impact of syariah law on estate planning for muslim expatriates with assets all over the world. The issues faced by muslims in planning for the future are more complex than for non-muslims and these issues are compounded when a cross-border element is introduced. If you or your client anticipate the possibility of encountering these issues in planning for the disposition of assets after death, you should seek out legal advice from lawyers familiar with these issues in each country in which assets are located.
