Yesterday, the Alt-Law team concluded the NUS Law Legal Technology Competition 2020 with a virtual finale, which featured Mr Ng Wai King, Managing Partner of WongPartnership LLP, as well as all the judges who were involved in both the grand finals and semi-finals.

We would like to thank WongPartnership LLP for the unwavering support and effort towards this competition, as well as congratulate the following teams for emerging as our top 3 performers!

Champions: Team Legal Alligator
First Runners-up: Team Employbot
Second Runners-up: Team FOOM

Above and beyond the prizes, the Alt-Law team hopes that this competition demonstrates that the synergy of legal knowledge and technological skills can serve as a key driving force to solve everyday legal problems faced by litigants-in-person.

More importantly, we also hope that it served as an exciting and meaningful opportunity for law students to take their first plunge into legal technology, as well as for non-law students to also discover their potentially integral role in the industry.

With the generous support of WongPartnership LLP, Alt+Law is proud to have started the year with the official launch of our marquee event last Friday, the NUS Law Legal Technology Competition 2020.

The launch event featured an exciting panel discussion on this year's competition theme: The Rise of Technology in the Legal Industry - Opportunities and Implications. After an enlightening welcome address by Mr Ng Wai King, Managing Partner of WongPartnership LLP, the panellists made their way to the front to share their thoughts.

Moderated by Mr Lam Chung Nian, who heads the IPTMT practice in WongPartnership LLP, the first panellist to take the floor was Mr Yeong Zee Kin, Assistant Chief Executive of the IMDA's Data Innovation and Protection Group and Deputy Commissioner of the PDPC.

Thereafter, Mr Ivan Rawtaer, Co-Founder of legal-tech start-up Pactly, shared his insights as a lawyer-turned-technopreneur. Last but not least, Mr Joseph Lau, a Teaching Assistant in NUS Law, wrapped up the discussion with an engaging sharing from an academic perspective.

Alt+Law would like to once again thank all panellists for sharing their insights with NUS students across a range of faculties.

Alt+Law would also like to thank all attendees for their interest and support for this initiative. Finally, to all participants, all the best for the preliminary rounds and beyond!

Hi law school!

[LawTech.Asia Associate Authorship Programme]

LawTech.Asia is opening applications for this year's Associate Authorship Programme to all students! In this attachment scheme, members from LawTech.Asia will mentor and guide selected Associate Authours to produce an article on their own area of interest in LegalTech, which will then be featured on https://lawtech.asia/

Currently, the list of individuals who will be acting as mentors has yet to be decided, as this depends on the capacities of the members from LawTech.Asia. As such, the number of slots for Associate Authors has yet to be decided as well.

The scheme will last for approximately 3 months over the Summer vacation period to provide ample time for research and writing for selected Associate Authors.

Sign up using this link: https://forms.gle/vqfJ8XH91cWbscG69

[Guest Contributions for LawTech.Asia]

As an alternative to the Associate Authorship Programme, LawTech.Asia is also actively accepting guest contributions! The estimated duration will ultimately depend on the level of review that needs to be done for each article. To shorten this process, students are encouraged to read and abide by our guest contribution guidelines on our website:
https://lawtech.asia/article-contribution/

There is no cap on the number of writers who may wish to submit guest contributions and rest assured, LawTech.Asia will provide them with the requisite attributions.

Good things must share --
As such, the Alt+Law team would like to help blast a message from our friends in the Law School International Relations Committee (LSIRC), one of NUS Law's sub-clubs. Kudos to LSIRC as well for dipping their toes into the legal-tech space!
