Lately you see more and more news about million-dollar HDB… and this Straits Times article got me thinking.

When a 30-year-old resale flat is already asking ~$1M+, some new or resale condos are actually not that far off in price – but come with full facilities, more privacy and potential for rental/investment.

Of course, it’s not so simple as “condo better than HDB”. There are trade-offs:
• Size – same budget usually means smaller but newer condo vs bigger but older flat
• Future plans – okay for couples now, but can feel tight when kids come along
• Cashflow – bank loan vs HDB loan, interest rate and monthly instalment all different

My takeaway:
🔹 If resale HDB you like is already near $1M, it may be worth comparing numbers with a private option instead of automatically saying “condo sure cannot afford”.
