1. Your assessing body. ACS, Engineers Australia, VETASSESS. Choose the wrong occupation, and you may have to start again.
2. Your points score. Your classification affects how your experience is counted. The same job can score differently.
3. Your visa options. 189, 190, 491. Not every pathway is available to every occupation.

What it doesn't decide: your job title, your seniority, or what your employer calls you.

1 July marks a new migration program year. State nomination allocations for the 190 and 491 visas reset. Some pathways that were capped reopen. New occupation priority lists take effect.

But invitations don't restart from zero. Cut-off points still depend on competition and your profile. If your score wasn't competitive before July, it won't automatically be competitive after.

What July 1 actually does is create movement. States adjust their criteria. Some occupations that weren't being nominated for Australia PR start opening. Some that were may close or tighten.
