A Matterport scan is different from most other normal pano captures. Lidar technology is used to find the interior dimensions of the property - length, breadth, height of all walls.

From this, the Matterport cloud can generate a detailed floorplan, allowing users to understand the property layout, plan for renovation and furniture placements.

The data accuracy is +/- 2cm at a 10m range. Good enough for real estate, facilities and design teams.

This is how a Matterport capture of a property looks like on my iPad before I upload it to the cloud for processing.

The mirrors and window should be marked out after the scan to prevent alignment errors. While trims should be marked out to eliminate unwanted 3D depth data.

The processing time on Matterport cloud to transform the capture file into a 3D walkthrough used to be take about 12 to 24 hours. But now they have improved and it can be as fast as within a few hours, depending on the number of scan points.

Using Matterport services under Looksee Looksee, clients with urgent requierments can chop chop have their virtual tour ready on the same day.✌️

Just completed another virtual tour shoot of a house. Taking care to capture the walking path of the user and also the corners, for those nice wide angle photo which I can extract for my client’s listing.

The black brick beside me is my trusty Matterport Pro 2 camera which not only captures imagery in 4k resolution, but also performs a 3D scan. This allows users of the virtual tour to not only walk the house, but to also take measurements of spaces for furniture placement and planning purposes.

The recent Matterport software upgrade introduced a new feature that will help me draw out a floorplan of the unit, complete with measurements of each room size too! Nifty right?! 🤓
