Today is the annual Dragon Boat Festival!!!

It is said that the patriot Qu Yuan committed su***de by jumping into the river after corrupted court officers caused him to be exiled by the emperor of Chu.

Villagers rushed to row their boats to the middle of the river, beating drums to scare away fishes and spirits. They also threw zongzi (Chinese rice dumplings) to keep the fish from eating his body.

Fast forward to the present day; we get to eat delicious rice dumplings and dragon boat races are always loud with drums, all due to the sacrifices of Qu Yuan.

Taking this opportunity to wish everyone Happy Dragon Boat Festival!

If you are around Chinatown in any part of the world, do try the rice dumplings and soak in the atmosphere.
