Edvina Fahlqvist is a Swedish electroacoustic composer, field recordist, vocalist, and sound artist currently based in Spain. Her work explores the relationship between sound and memory, investigating how sonic traces can hold and distort lived experience. Using hyper-processed organic found sounds and field recordings, she creates immersive soundscapes that blur the line between the synthetic and human. Her work spans spatial audio installation, live performance and recorded releases.

After her first two releases Augury (2020) and Heart of Target (2022), Edvina has completed her first full length album A Thousand Windows which was recorded partly in EMS in 2025, and will be released later this year. She returns to EMS to begin work on a new piece, developing material gathered during a recent residency at Mt Etna in Sicily.

Alex Mackay is a musician from the from the north of Scotland, creating electroacoustic works that integrate analog synthesis with exploratory approaches to the recording and manipulation of acoustic spaces and instruments, through a focus on interrelations between systems of signal flow, amplification, tuning, spatialisation and reverberation.

In live contexts, Alex has presented solo and collaborative works in performances, installations and exhibitions across Europe, as well as being active as an electric guitarist and synthesist, notably as a live member of the band Mogwai from Glasgow, Scotland.

Alex studied composition and music production at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of York, and is currently a doctoral researcher in electroacoustic composition at the University of York (supported by the UK Arts & Humanities Research Council, through the White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities) researching intersections of site specificity and studio-based composition practice, informed by a theoretical framework of time geography.

Furthering this research at EMS, Alex will be developing a new electroacoustic work for analog synthesizers and Scottish smallpipes; devising analog synthesis techniques informed by the materiality, timbrality and airflow of and through the pipes, integrated with location recordings and resonance profiles of spaces situated in the Strathnaver region of the north Highlands of Scotland. Acknowledging the significance of temporal and spatial displacement in both the historical context and creation of the work, the creative process aims to explore engagement with sonic materialities rooted in place as means of re-activating, re-imagining and re-connecting with this site from the vantage point of the studio.

Based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, Pat McMaster is an interdisciplinary artist working in improvisation and gesture-based electronic performance.

Their practice invites the expressive traditions of early electronic instruments—particularly the Buchla and ondes Martenot—into dialogue with contemporary approaches that expand technical agency through embodied knowledge, spatialization, and the body-instrument interface.

Nicholas Morrish is a composer-electronic musician based in Berlin.

His solo electronic practice embraces synthesis as a tool for speculative worldbuilding in which uncanny renderings of acoustic bodies encounter synthetic figures of opaque origin. Recently, his project Belly and Other Members was nominated in the electronic music category at Forecast 10. Performances have been given at Radialsystem, Gaswerk Music Days, Forecast Festival and Naxos Hallenkonzerte among others.

His concert work spans (electro)acoustic ensemble pieces, collaborations with improvising musicians, and multimedia projects, with performances by the London Symphony Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble/LA Phil, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Münchener Kammerorchester, and Erwan Keravec, among others. Festival appearances include MaerzMusik (DE), HCMF (UK), Rainy Days (LUX), Gaudeamus (NL), Noon to Midnight / LA Phil (USA), Manifeste (FR), and Impuls (AUT). Notable distinctions include the Mendelssohn Scholarship (2018–2020), a Gaudeamus Award nomination (2019), and the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize (2014).

Ongoing interdisciplinary collaborations have led to music theatre/concert-installation commissions from the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Musikverein Wien, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and Musiktheatertage Wien/Kollektiv Spitzwegerich. Installations have been presented internationally across Europe and Asia, including at the Al Wasl Dome (Dubai), MONOM, and Himmel unter Berlin, in collaboration with groups such as phase7 performing.arts, Kling Klang Klong, and Das Dur.

Nick’s residency at EMS is supported by the Creative Europe Programme of the EU, implemented by the Goethe-Institut.
