Counselling, coaching, welfare support, family assistance, wellness retreats and post-incident guidance are just some of the services available to members through the Police Fi****ms Officers Association (PFOA).

At the recent PFOA AGM, DPF Northern Area Secretary Mick Reynolds received an update on the charity's achievements over the last 12 months, the support delivered to members and families across the UK, and plans to further strengthen welfare and wellbeing services in the future. The breadth of support provided continues to highlight the important role the PFOA plays in supporting fi****ms officers and their families throughout their careers and beyond.

Your PFOA membership is included as part of your DPF membership, with subscriptions funded by the DPF, giving you access to these valuable services.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with our Southern Area Secretary Paul Hunter during his recent visits to Hereford and Croughton.

Members raised a range of issues including vehicle suitability and operational practicality, pay parity, ongoing pension-related matters, mileage and subsistence allowances. We also discussed several local matters requiring clarification and follow up.

In addition to these collective issues, a number of members spoke with us privately about personal concerns, and we appreciate the opportunity to provide support and representation where needed.

As always, the feedback received from members is invaluable and helps inform our ongoing engagement with the Force. We will continue to raise concerns constructively and work towards positive outcomes for our members.

Ministry of Defence Police’s recent All Staff Network Day brought together representatives from the REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) Network, DAWN (Disability & Wellbeing) Network, Gender Network and the LGBT+ Network.

It was a positive opportunity for networks to meet, share experiences and strengthen connections with senior leaders and the Federation, helping to improve visibility and representation for officers across the Force.

The focus was on supporting a more consistent approach to listening to officers and ensuring their views are heard. Our General Secretary Darren Mitchell was pleased to attend and support the day, led by ACC Johnson who said the following:

“We have a fantastic mix of experienced network members and colleagues taking on new roles, bringing fresh ideas, energy and perspectives.

The day gave us an opportunity to share experiences, make plans together and discuss how we can best support the MDP in becoming a place where everyone feels valued, included and able to bring their whole self to work.”

From today, 1 October, Gallagher is the new provider for the DPF Group Insurance Scheme.

The renewed scheme includes a number of improvements to the cover. Full details are available in the 2026 Group Insurance Scheme Booklet.

Looking beyond our own organisation 🤝

General Secretary Darren Mitchell attended the British Transport Police Federation Annual Conference in Glasgow last week, alongside representatives from police staff associations and federations from across the UK and Europe.

The discussions touched on issues that will be familiar to our own members: increasing demand, exposure to difficult and traumatic incidents, wellbeing and the importance of ensuring those who protect others are properly supported.

The conference also highlighted the value of federations coming together to share experiences, learn from one another and identify the issues we have in common.

The launch of BTP Federation’s campaign provided a powerful illustration of the breadth and unpredictability of frontline policing, while the conference’s discussions around trauma and officer wellbeing reinforced the importance of looking beyond the incident itself and considering its longer-term impact.

For DPF, attending events such as this is an important opportunity to listen, share experiences and bring back perspectives that can help inform how we continue to represent our own officers.

Yesterday, our General Secretary Darren Mitchell attended National Police Memorial Day in Belfast, joining colleagues, families and friends from across the policing family to remember those who have lost their lives in service.

It was a moving and poignant service, recognising the sacrifice made by officers and the lasting impact their loss has on those who knew and loved them.

The service was particularly poignant for the Ministry of Defence Police, as one of our own officers, PC Chester was among those remembered.

Darren said:

“There is something very powerful about seeing the policing family come together in this way. It was a privilege to be there, to share that moment with families and colleagues, and to reflect on the lives behind the names.”

Their service, their contribution and their sacrifice must never be forgotten.

Today, our General Secretary Darren Mitchell is honoured to attend National Police Memorial Day in Belfast.

The annual service brings together the policing family from across the UK and beyond to remember those who have lost their lives in service.

It is a significant day of remembrance and national recognition, providing an opportunity to stand together with families, friends and colleagues and ensure that the sacrifice of those who served is never forgotten.

Honoured to stand alongside our EuroCOP colleagues and friends at the British Transport Police Federation Awards of Excellence and Annual Conference.Events like this highlight the professionalism, courage and dedication of officers across all our organisations.

Congratulations to every award recipient and thank you to the British Transport Police Federation for hosting a fantastic conference.

A strong EuroCOP presence at the British Transport Police Federation’s Awards of Excellence and Annual Conference in Glasgow.

EuroCOP President Roberto García González was joined by colleagues from the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors, Civil Nuclear Police Federation, Defence Police Federation, Gibraltar Defence Police Federation, Garda Representative Association, Police Federation for Northern Ireland and Scottish Police Federation.

It was a pleasure to come together to celebrate the outstanding officers and teams recognised at the awards, and to support our British Transport Police Federation colleagues at their conference.

These gatherings strengthen the friendships and solidarity that connect our member organisations. Congratulations to everyone honoured at the Awards of Excellence, and thank you to BTP Federation for bringing us together.

Is there an issue you think should be raised at this year’s DPF Annual Conference?

We want to hear from you.

Stations can submit Conference Motions through their local DPF Branch Representative, giving members the opportunity to raise issues that matter to them at Annual Conference.

Motions must be submitted through the relevant Branch Representative in the name of the Branch, rather than by individual members. Each motion must also have a named proposer and seconder, both of whom must be Branch Representatives attending Annual Conference 2026.
