The EPO published on November 26, that the German Budestag approved the ratification bill on the Unified Patent Court Agreement.
The quoting the President Campinos’ reaction “Today's approval by the Bundestag brings us an important step closer to the much-anticipated implementation of the Unitary Patent package. (...)".
EPO also claims to be ready to start registering the Unitary Patents.
The Unitary Patent will be based on a European patent granted by the EPO under the rules and procedures of the EPC. After grant of the European patent, unitary effect can be requested for the territory of the 25 participating Member States. The Unitary Patent will not affect the EPO's day-to-day search, examination and granting procedures. It will not replace the existing routes to patent protection in Europe, but will be an additional option alongside national patents and "classic" European patents.
It is expected that the Unitary Patents will remove the need for complex and costly national validation procedures

PATENTREE HAS ONCE AGAIN MADE IT INTO THE FINANCIAL TIMES’ LIST OF EUROPE’S LEADING PATENT LAW FIRMS

Patentree is proud to announce that we have been recognized as one of Europe’s top 160 firms according to Financial Times and Statista´s special report on Leading European Patent Law Firms. Patentree is the only Portuguese intellectual property firm on the list to have achieved 5 gold medals and to made into the top 20.

O Instituto Europeu de Patentes (EPO) estendeu para 17 de Abril de 2020 todos os prazos que expirem a partir de 15 de Março de 2020 para pedidos Europeus e PCT no EPO. Instituto da União Europeia de Propriedade Intelectual (EUIPO) estendeu para 1 de Maio de 2020 os prazos para Marcas e Desenhos. De qualquer modo, se algum dos Institutos de Patentes, nos quais somos vossos representantes, vier a adotar medidas que afetem a prossecução do vosso pedido, tais como prolongar ou a suspender prazos, informar-vos-emos imediatamente. Os direitos de prioridade enquadrados na convenção de Paris não poderão ser estendidos.

In the light of COVID-19 outbreak and the preventive steps taken by the Portuguese authorities, PATENTREE will continue our services although most of us are working remotely.

We are prepared to do teleworking and all our meetings will be arranged by video or conference call. Please be assured that our teleworking arrangements will uphold the confidentiality nature of our work.

At PATENTREE, filings before intellectual property offices will remain electronic. We do not expect our work to have any changes in its quality nor in our workload capacity. Rest assured that we are prepared to deal with deadlines, answer phones and reply to e-mails as usual.

The European Patent Office (EPO) has extended to 17 April 2020 all time periods expiring on or after 15 March 2020 for European applications and PCT applications at the EPO. No explicit notice has been issued from the INPI-PT until this moment. The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has extended to 1 May 2020 the time limits for trademarks and designs. Nevertheless, if any IP office before which we act as representatives should implement further measures affecting the prosecution of one of your cases, such as postponing or suspending upcoming deadlines, we will inform you. Please note that the priority right under the Paris Convention cannot be extended.
