In Portugal after you agree on a price you sign something called a CPCV and you hand over ten percent of the purchase price as a deposit. If you change your mind for any reason after signing that contract, that money is gone. On a 600,000 euro property that is 60,000 euros you never see again. I have watched this happen to American buyers who did not understand what they were signing. Your lawyer must complete all due diligence before you sign, not after. If you are thinking about buying property in Portugal and you want to do this the right way, the link to book a call with me is in my bio.
