🇵🇱 Temporary residence in Katowice
⏳ Application submitted: February 2023
💍 Basis: Marriage with a Polish citizen

This client reached out to me in February 2025 – after two years of complete silence from the immigration office in Katowice.
👉 I reviewed the case files in Katowice immigration office
👉 Helped update the missing documents
👉 Sent speed-up requests

📞 Then the inspector called me directly (which is very rare in Katowice!) to ask for an additional statement related to the Border Guard report.
We submitted it immediately and…

Can a foreigner open a company in Poland! Yes, yes and yes again 🔥. However remember, that there are some legal limitations - you might not be eligible to open one-person business activity. What to do in this scenario? Do not throw away your business plan yet, and think about a different business form! (for example Sp. z o.o.).

Have a look at short summary of the basic formalities that you have remember about. 🚗
As far as I know, a lot of foreigners are working remotely from home. For me a car is a must. How about you? 🙂

Does Santa Claus know and respect polish law regulations? 🤔
How does he know our address? Is it ok to enter our house when we sleep? Does he have a sledge license and a valid visa or TRC to enter Poland?
You know the answer, but we still love him, don’t we?😇🎅

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. You can be a Santa, but do it right! 🎅🤶

Did you know that is it obligatory to register the address of your stay? 😮
The regulation applies not only to polish citizens, but also to foreigners planning to stay in Poland for longer than 3 months (EU, EFTA) or a month (non-EU).
If you still didn't officialy register address of your residence time to visit a city hall and fix it :).

On which basis should you apply for a residence permit if you both study full-time and work?

The justification and type of application for a temporary residence permit and the purpose of stay depends on the foreigner. The foreigner should indicate due to what circumstances the authority is to consider the application (study or work).

What does it mean? It means that it is up to you! Remember to be clear (you shouldn't apply for both at the same time - the authorities will not choose for you). Take into consideration what is the main purpose of your stay, what are your future plans and for how long do you need a temporary residency permit.

We will start with a set of most common questions.

First one is - how to extend the validity of TRC? 🤔
It is not possible to "extend" the temporary residence permit. You must submit an application for another residence permit (a new one) or leave Poland before the end of the validity of the current one.

For those who do not know me, hello! My name is Paulina and I am a polish lawyer assisting foreigners living in Poland with their everyday legal problems.

Why did I choose this specialization? First of all, I was an expat myself. For quite a while after graduating from law school I lived in the United States and I felt expat’s struggles on my own skin.
