*IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION ON ATL & TAX FILING*

We have noticed that many consultants are spreading misleading information about the recent FBR/ATL update circulating on social media. As your trusted advisors, we want to set the record straightforward facts.

â–  *What Is Actually Happening?*
- ➤ Yes! it is true that the ATL surcharge for individuals is proposed to increase from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 25,000 under Finance Bill 2026. We are not denying this fact. However, this does *NOT* mean you have to pay Rs. 25,000 from 1 July 2026. Here is what the law actually says:

- ➤ If you file your 2026 income tax return on or before the due date (30 September 2026), you will *automatically become an Active Filer* and will NOT need to pay any ATL challan at all not Rs. 1,000, not Rs. 25,000.
- ➤ The Rs. 25,000 penalty applies only to those who miss the due date and try to get onto the Active Taxpayers List after 30 September 2026.
- ➤ *Why is 1 July 2026 mentioned in the proposed Finance Bill and other posts? Because every Finance Bill in Pakistan takes effect from 1 July, the start of the new fiscal year.*

â–  *What Misleading Consultants Are Saying*
- Many posts are implying that from 1 July 2026, everyone who is not an active filer must immediately pay Rs. 25,000 to get onto the ATL. *This is incorrect and is causing unnecessary panic.*
- The FBR notice simply warns that the surcharge rate will rise, it does not override or shorten the standard tax return filing deadline of 30 September 2026

â–  *Our Advice to You*
- ➤ *Even though you are late filer or inactive filer right now, just simply file your 2026 return on time (Before 30 September 2026), that is all you need to do to avoid any surcharge entirely.*
