One of the key highlights of the ADR ODR International × ICDRL (AIPC) Launch Event - Islamabad was the official announcement of the AOI–ICDRL Mediation & Negotiation Competition, led by Mr Ghulam Muhammad Adnan, Head of Competitions AOI Pakistan-ICDRL

In his remarks, Mr Ghulam Muhammad highlighted that building an effective ADR ecosystem requires more than training alone, it requires opportunities to put those skills into practice through continued mentorship, feedback, and practical exposure.

Through two (2) mediation & negotiation competitions, AOI and ICDRL continue their mission to prepare young professionals and students alike to resolve disputes with skill, confidence, and purpose. The AOI–ICDRL Competition aims to strengthen the next generation of mediators, negotiators, and dispute resolution professionals by giving participants the opportunity to engage with realistic scenarios, receive expert feedback, and understand how conflict can be resolved constructively.

From Ecosystem to Culture: Bridging the Implementation Gap in Pakistan’s Mediation Landscape

This was the focus of a powerful and engaging discussion during Panel 2 at the AIPC (ADR ODR International x ICDRL) Launch Event in Islamabad.

The session was masterfully moderated by Barrister Talha Ilyas Sheikh (Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan), who set the tone by noting that while mediation is now firmly part of Pakistan's legal conversation, the real challenge lies in its systemic implementation.

Our expert speakers offered a multi-faceted roadmap for bridging this gap. Sarah Tarar highlighted Pakistan's ADR progress, urging the government to lead by example with "mediation-first" contract clauses and continuous professional training. Rahim Shamji advocated for mandatory mediation, drawing on successful models from the UK, US, and Europe to push from awareness to action. Sohail Khoja focused on scalability, stressing the need for robust institutional safeguards and international competition exposure to build credible standards. Finally, Natalya Kamal addressed the local litigation culture, noting the hesitation among traditional lawyers and the critical need for stronger incentives to promote good-faith mediation.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, sparking meaningful dialogue with an audience eager to see these reforms shape the future of justice in Pakistan.

'Can Pakistan Be the New Seat of Arbitration in Asia?' This was the discussion of Panel 1 of the ADR ODR International × ICDRL Peacemakers (AIPC) Launch Event - Islamabad on 9th May 2026, bringing together leading voices in the ADR community.

The panel was expertly moderated by speaker Mr. Qasim Wadud, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, who led a focused and thought-provoking discussion on the question.

Within the speakers, Mr Feisal Naqvi, Advocate Supreme Court, emphasised that Pakistan’s future as an arbitration seat depends on key reforms, particularly a modern Arbitration Act, while Ms Fatima A. Malik, Consultant IDU at Attorney General's Office, stressed the need to first establish Pakistan as a credible arbitration venue. Ms Ayla Majid, CEO Planetive, highlighted the link between investor confidence and arbitration growth, and Mr Hassan Ali Raza, Advocate Supreme Court, noted that meaningful, incremental executive-led reforms should take priority over broad systemic change.

The session offered an honest, practical, and forward-looking discussion on the steps Pakistan must take to strengthen its position in regional and international arbitration.
