A derivative is a 'contingent contract' and is used as a financial instrument that has its value contingent upon the value of the underlying asset. Contrary to the popular misconceptions, derivatives are 'hedging' instruments against risks in face of delivery or price uncertainties at a value agreed by the parties. "Bitcoin is a hedge against inflation." Hardly. The greatest thing about Bitcoin or crypto generally is that they are 'unprotected'. The worst thing about them is that they are, well, 'unprotected'. If a stately contractual and legal validity holds as a value for any currency then the contractual, that is, legal value has much to do with crypto domain too. And who says government can't issue, that means potentially inflationary, cryptocurrencies?
