Lady Justitia.
The Roman goddess.
She is blind folded because Justice is impartial and doesn't look if you are rich or poor, influenced or not. It's dispensed based on rational impartiality.
The balanced scales of Justice demotes the hearing of the accuser and the accused. Weighing their facts and give right to the deserve and wrong to the other.
The sword is the enforcement of the law which is the tool to deliver justice attained from the scales.
This is just a summary. There is more to it.

Order 19(rule 1-3) of CPC deals with affidavit.
It is Sworn statement of deponent.
On Oath.
Each and every thing that you file in court must be supported with affidavit.
Its purpose is to show that each and everything that have written in application is true.
Notary public attests the affidavit.
