💍 Law on Haq Mehr (Legal Position in Pakistan)

Under Islamic principles and the law of Pakistan, Haq Mehr is a mandatory and enforceable obligation arising out of marriage. It is a debt owed by the husband to the wife, agreed at the time of Nikah and recorded in the Nikahnama. The wife has an absolute legal right to demand it, either prompt or deferred as agreed. Courts have consistently held that non-payment of Haq Mehr gives rise to a recoverable claim, and it can be enforced through civil proceedings. It is neither a gift nor a favor, but a statutory and contractual liability of the husband. ⚖️💍
