According to investigative reports and police findings, the murder case that shocked Karachi a few weeks ago has now taken a dramatic turn, revealing a complex story involving personal relationships, emotional conflict, and premeditated violence.
Background of the Victim
Dr. Sarang, originally belonging to Badin, was a practicing doctor working in Karachi. His wife, Dr. Rameena, was also a medical professional employed at a local hospital. By all outward appearances, the couple seemed to be living a stable and successful married life.
The Incident
On the day of the incident, Dr. Sarang completed his duty and visited his father- in-laws’ residence to pick up his wife. The couple then left together in a rickshaw for their home.
As the rickshaw was passing through an underpass near Mehran Hotel, a car reportedly intercepted them. According to the investigation, an armed masked man stepped out of the vehicle and ordered Dr. Sarang to get out of the rickshaw. When he resisted, the attacker opened fire.
Dr. Sarang sustained multiple bullet injuries, including one to the chest and others to his legs. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting.
With the assistance of bystanders, Dr. Rameena shifted her husband to a hospital in another rickshaw. However, despite medical efforts, Dr. Sarang later succumbed to his injuries.
Initial Police Investigation
Early police investigations reportedly found no immediate motive behind the murder. Authorities discovered no known family disputes, financial conflicts, or personal enmities involving the victim. Due to the absence of clear leads, investigators began treating the case as a blind murder and expanded the scope of inquiry.
During the investigation, police examined Dr. Rameena’s call detail records. Investigators allegedly identified repeated communication with an unsaved phone number, both before and after the incident. When questioned, Dr. Rameena was reportedly unable to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the contact.
Further inquiry revealed that the number belonged to Haseeb, a government officer, who had allegedly been in contact with Dr. Rameena for approximately one and a half years.
Emerging Motive
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased informed investigators that Dr. Sarang had previously been transferred to Gwadar for official duty and had spent several months working there.
According to police findings, during this period Haseeb allegedly developed a close relationship with Dr. Rameena. Investigators claim the relationship gradually deepened, and Haseeb later pressured her to seek a divorce from Dr. Sarang so he could marry her.
Reports suggest Dr. Rameena conveyed that obtaining a divorce without justification would not be easy. Investigators further allege that Haseeb attempted to intimidate Dr. Sarang through various means in an effort to force a separation. However, Dr. Sarang reportedly refused to end the marriage and was even considering relocating abroad with his wife.
Alleged Murder Conspiracy
According to the police version of events, Haseeb eventually devised a plan to eliminate Dr. Sarang. On the day of the attack, he allegedly rented a vehicle and remained in contact with Dr. Rameena to monitor the couple’s movements and location.
Investigators claim that after tracking the victim’s route, the assailant intercepted the rickshaw inside the underpass and carried out the fatal shooting.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
Police subsequently arrested both Dr. Rameena and Haseeb. The suspects were presented before a court, which ordered their judicial remand and transfer to jail pending further legal proceedings.
Research and Social Perspective
The case has generated significant public debate regarding trust, emotional manipulation, misuse of professional status, and the psychological dimensions of intimate relationships. Analysts observing the case note that highly educated individuals are not immune to emotional instability, possessiveness, or destructive decision-making.
At the same time, legal experts emphasize that allegations presented during police investigations remain subject to judicial scrutiny, and final conclusions can only be established through due legal process and court proceedings.
