The Breath of Life
If there’s one truth that has proved absolutely and uncannily real about me, it is this: the breath of life resides in the sharp winds of change.
As D.H. Lawrence wrote in his poem “The Breath of Life”:
“The breath of life is in the sharp winds of change
mingled with the breath of destruction.
But if you want to breathe deep, sumptuous life
breathe all alone, in silence, in the dark,
and see nothing.”
I have learned that the truest vitality, the deepest renewal, doesn’t emerge from calm waters but from the tempests that unsettle us. Change, though fierce, carries the essence of growth. Destruction, though painful, often clears the space for new creation.
In the end, life itself whispers through those sharp winds — daring us to breathe deeply and begin again.
