π How does losartan work?
Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).
It works by blocking the AT1 receptor, which prevents angiotensin II from exerting its usual effects.
That leads to:
π©Έ Less vasoconstriction
π§ Less sodium and water retention
π Lower blood pressure
β€οΈ Reduced pressure load on the heart
In simple terms:
Losartan blocks angiotensin II β blood vessels relax β blood pressure falls.
It is commonly used in conditions such as hypertension, and in some patients it may also help protect the kidneys and reduce cardiovascular strain.
