Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial has taken Suo Motu notice of the political and constitutional crisis.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial has taken Suo Motu notice of the political and constitutional crisis that emerged following Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri's decision to reject the opposition's no-confidence motion against the premier and the dissolution of the NA on Imran Khan's advice, Aaj News reported on Sunday.

Earlier, the Chief Justice of Pakistan called Supreme Court judges to his residence for consultation on the current situation.

Meanwhile, the opposition and the government's legal teams have also reached the top court.

Earlier, Suri, who was chairing the NA session, dismissed the opposition's motion, terming it a contradiction of Article 5 of the Constitution.

In a brief address to the nation after the NA session, Prime Minister Imran Khan said after the "unconstitutional" nature of the no-confidence motion he has advised President Dr Arif Alvi to dissolve the assemblies, and call early elections.

Khan had earlier suggested on Saturday that he might not accept a vote to oust him, a move he alleged was being orchestrated by the United States.

The High Court of Justice in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) has recalled its earlier orders regarding attachment of PIA offshore assets.

BVI High Court Justice Gerhard Wallbank, while passing the order on December 10, 2020, had attached certain assets of PIA.

The court had attached the assets belonging to Pakistan International Airlines Investment Limited (PIAIL), including the company’s interests in two hotels — Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan, New York, and Scribe Hotel in Central Paris.

In view of the injunction, PIA cannot sale any of these hotels.

"A short while ago judgment was announced by British Virgin Island High Court. Great legal victory for PIA and Pakistan. The order was passed earlier on the request of TCC which was seeking enforcement of Reko Diq award. All orders passed against PIA earlier are now recalled by the Court. Receiver removed from Roosevelt hotel, NY and Scribe hotel, Paris. Cost of litigation also awarded," said a statement issued by Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) office on Tuesday.
