Conservation of mangroves

It was an inspiring journey to see the mangroves plants Hamdam Foundation (HF) planted three-year back on 1000 acre land with the kind support of UNDP GEF Small Grants Program near (SGP) near Kharo Chhan, Thatta district. It is little contribution to rehabilitate the mangroves forest in the area. The trip on fishing boat along famous Sanhri Creek made us comfortable to enjoy the weather all along, witnessed innocent sea-gulls flying over, buffalos, goats and cows wandering without shepherd and we saw more boats carrying community fishermen to the open sea and some returning back with catch on the same route.
We saw Rhizophora and Avicennia survived, with touchy look in long-stretched rows, attracting small crab species to stay at growing plants and above all creating a hope for HF team and community to see fruit of their work.
These plants are existing at blocks of Kaak, Mirwah and Sokhi (all are located along the Sanhri creek channel)-- the mangroves plant's height was around 3ft to 4.5 feet, depending on fertility of mud at the site. Now these plants are growing and will need some time to reach the proper height to play a role of natural shield along the sea
