De La Salle University Law Moot and Debate Society

De La Salle University Law Moot and Debate Society LAMDES is the premiere moot and debate organization of the DLSU Tañada-Diokno School of Law. Second, it enables students to have a career direction.

Moot Court and Advocacy Training

First, it develops critical thinking skills applied to difficult areas of law. On a pedagogical level, it provides another dimension wherein students can appreciate and learn about the law, from their independent research as well as the insights and research of others. The entire focus of Moot Court is to challenge the students is to comprehend what the law is and

apply it to the circumstances of the case. Every single premise constructed through the hard work of the student. Very rarely do law students have a set path in mind to pursue. In Moot Court, a student is exposed to the nuances of a certain area of law (i.e. human rights and environmental law), which would most likely be a path they would later consider as a practice. Further, it’s a valuable credential Quoting William Mitchell College of Law professor and Intellectual Property Institute director Kenneth Port, “ [...] In determining quality, employers look first to see if a student participated in Law Review and second Moot Court. So, it’s a very important piece of what makes a quality candidate for a job.”

Last, it best brings honor and prestige to DLSU Law. We have gone as far as the semi-finals for The Hague Moot Court Competition in Hong Kong, quarter-finalist twice for the International Humanitarian Law Moot. We even qualified as the only Philippine Asia Cup team in 2015 where our team competed in Japan. In debate competitions, we even fare better, beating law schools that are known for their debate prowess (ALSP Debate Championship 1st Runners Up; ANC 1st Runners Up; Falcon Cup 1st Runners Up etc.). Being a young law school, one of the best avenues to demonstrate our legal education is moot and debate.

The DLSU Law Moot and Debate Society proudly congratulates the DLSU-TDSOL Team on their groundbreaking success, having ranked Top 5 Overall in the Philippine National Rounds of the 2026 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, held at the University of Santo Tomas from February 25–27, 2026.

The team, composed of Genary Kyna Gonzales (Team Captain), Juan Lorenzo Delfin, Carlie Manayan, and Francesca Sarmiento, was among the 24 competing teams in the National Rounds. In addition to securing an impressive Top 5 Overall ranking, the team also placed Top 8 for their memorial.

Genary Kyna Gonzales was likewise awarded the distinction of 2nd Best Oralist in the Preliminary Rounds.

The team’s hard-earned and well-deserved recognition on the Philippine stage would not have been possible without the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Rebecca E. Khan (Faculty Coach), Atty. Jena Tiongson (Alumni Coach), and the team’s student coaches — Lance Nolasco, Justin De Borja, and Shane Andrew Magnaye who previously served as Jessup oralists.

The team was also ably supported by researchers Sophia Natividad, Ma. Patricia San Juan, and Carlo Sto. Tomas.

LAMDES proudly congratulates the team for their effort, excellence, and determination. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all. ⭐️

Every great advocate has a story about the moment they truly found their voice.

For many of our alumni and members, LAMDES was one of the places where that journey took shape — through moots, training, and a community that pushed them to grow.

Read their testimonies and see how mooting became a stepping stone for them to excel in both law school and their careers.
