The big demand of these boats on an island where a great percentage of its inhabitants are dependent on fishing , has created the need for a change of the traditional way of boat building. The old building method is based on the availability of good wood , but since the trees just can’t grow as fast as they’re being chopped down the National Government restricted its cutting by law and now requir
es permits to do so. To get such a permit is difficult and often leaves no other solution for the boat builders or fishermen than to cut the wood illegally and smuggle it witch involves money being paid „under the table“ that adds to the building cost and destroys the environment. Our boats are built out of Plywood (Tuffply) Fiberglass and Epoxy resin and are aprox. 30% lighter than ordinary boats with its many frames and the big log ( casco) for the bottom. A lighter boat means less gasoline or more cargo which reduces the running cost of the boat. Using Epoxy resin instead of expensive bronce nails as a glue for joints as well as a sealant for the plywood increases the boat’s life expectancy and cuts down the cost of maintenance in comparison to the traditional boat. The mission of ROMBLON BOAT SUPPLY is to introduce new materials and ways of building a boat in order to provide the fishing community with boats they need for their livelihood as well as saving the valuable trees of our beautiful province. All the materials we use are available in our shop located in Sitio Ipil, Brgy. Lonos Romblon, Romblon where we are happy to explain there use to encourage all the carpenters and boat builders to embrace the new technology and help us to make Ecofriendly progress.
