JAGS CONDUCTS BASIC OPERATIONAL LAW TRAINING (BOLT), ADVANCES “ONE JAGS”
Advancing the integration of JAGS Reserve with the Active component, The Judge Advocate General’s Service (JAGS) brought together forty (40) Active and Reserve participants for a two-day Basic Operational Law Training (BOLT) on 4–5 September 2026, strengthening their collective capability to provide legal support to AFP operations.
A collaborative effort of the Active and Reserve JAGS, BOLT provided a common training environment where judge advocates could build shared knowledge, exchange operational perspectives, and strengthen coordination in support of a more integrated and mission-ready JAGS.
The workshop focused on the practical application of law to military operations and on equipping judge advocates to provide commanders with timely, practical, and mission-responsive legal advice—from mission planning to mission ex*****on.
Central to the workshop was the principle that “advice should come at the speed of relevance.” In fast-moving operations, legal advice must be delivered in time to inform command decisions and contribute to mission accomplishment.
Through lectures, discussions, and practical exercises, Active and Reserve judge advocates trained alongside one another and examined operational legal issues that require sound legal judgment, operational awareness, and effective coordination.
The joint training further advanced “ONE JAGS” by strengthening the integration of Reserve judge advocates into the broader JAGS capability and enabling the Service to better harness the expertise, experience, and capacity of both components in support of AFP requirements.
Through BOLT, JAGS continues to build a cohesive and integrated legal service whose Active and Reserve judge advocates are prepared to work together and provide responsive legal support wherever the mission requires.
One Service. One Mission. ONE JAGS. ❤️🇵🇭⚖️
