NO. A lawyer cannot accept the warrant of arrest on behalf of his client.

A warrant of arrest is not a pleading or paper whose "SERVICE" can be satisfied by counsel's receipt or acceptance. It is a command to arrest a person named in it, and its ex*****on results in custody.

In fact, in Sandoval v. Manalo, (A.M. No. MTJ-96-1080, August 22,1996), the Supreme Court disciplined a judge who lifted a warrant of arrest based on counsel's assurance and undertaking to act as a "custodian" and produce the accused when needed.

Hence, if a lawyer claims to be allowed to accept a warrant of arrest on behalf of his client, the term "ARREST" under the Rules on Criminal Procedure will never be accomplished.
