Always check if the Notary Public is duly commissioned by the court covering the jurisdiction where the notarial service is being rendered. It's advisable to verify their identity by asking to see their IBP ID, checking the Supreme Court website if they are enlisted in the Roll of Attorneys, and verifying their Commission as issued by the relevant court. ⚖️

Parties to a contract are required to appear before a notary public. The purpose is for the notary public to ascertain the identity, capacity, and voluntariness of the parties to the ex*****on of the contract.

In one case, a deed of absolute sale over a parcel of land was notarized without the parties thereto appearing personally before the notary public. It was then revealed that it was impossible for one of the parties to execute the same as they had been deceased for 30 years already.

What is the purpose and benefit of notarization with legitimate notaries public?

"Notarization of documents ensures the authenticity and reliability of a document. Notarization of a private document converts such document into a public one, and renders it admissible in court without further proof of its authenticity." (Spouses Anudon v. Cefra, A.C. No. 5482, 10 February 2015)
