Did you know that the name "Tequila" doesn't simply refer to a type of alcoholic beverage? It is also a Geographical Indication (GI).

For tequila, only spirits made from blue agave and produced in designated regions of Mexico, following established production standards, may legally bear the name "Tequila."

This protection helps preserve the product's authenticity, supports local producers, and assures consumers that they are getting the genuine product. Products such as Guimaras Mangoes, Aklan Piña, Alburquerque Asin Tibuok, and T'nalak Tau Sebu are protected because their unique qualities are inseparable from the communities, traditions, and places where they originate.

This National Tequila Day, celebrate not only one of the world's most iconic beverages, but also the important role of GIs in preserving cultural heritage, promoting local industries, and protecting products whose identity is deeply rooted in their place of origin.
