Sheikh Yusop A. Salih was invited as a guest speaker for the 👑enthronement ceremony of Datu Dr. Jerry Asghar Wahab Porza Jr. in Arafah Jama’ah, Pantukan, Davao de Oro last January 28, 2024✨.
" Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.
I stand before you today with a heart filled with gratitude and humility as we gather to witness the sacred ceremony of enthroning Datu Dr. Jerry Asghar Wahab Porza Jr. in Arafah Jama’ah. This occasion is a testament to the strength and unity that binds us as a community, and it is an honor to address you on this auspicious day.
In the rich tapestry of Islam, leadership is not just a position of authority but a sacred trust bestowed upon an individual by the will of Allah. The principles of justice, compassion, and service to humanity are deeply embedded in the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and it is upon these principles that the foundation of any leadership must be built.
As we witness the enthronement of our new Datu, let us reflect on the Quranic guidance that emphasizes the qualities of a just and compassionate leader. Allah says in the Quran (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:197):
"And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa (piety, righteousness). So fear Me, O you who are understanding."
This verse reminds us that true leadership is rooted in piety, righteousness, and a deep consciousness of Allah. A Datu, as a leader, must exemplify these qualities in every aspect of their life, both public and private. It is through taqwa that a leader gains the trust and respect of the community.
Moreover, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has left us with a profound legacy of humility and service. He said:"The best of people are those that bring the most benefit to the rest of mankind." Therefore, Datu must see their leadership as a means to serve the community, to uplift the oppressed, and to bring about positive change.
In the spirit of unity, let us also remember the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The believers are like one body in their love, compassion, and care for each other. When any part of the body is in pain, the whole body feels it." A Datu must strive to foster unity and brotherhood among the members of our community, transcending tribal, ethnic, and cultural differences.
In conclusion, let us pray that the newly enthroned Datu leads with wisdom, humility, and a sincere commitment to the principles of justice and compassion enshrined in Islam. May Allah guide their steps and grant them the strength to carry the weight of this sacred trust.
May this enthronement ceremony be a moment of unity, growth, and prosperity for our community. Jazakum Allahu Khairan. Thank you, and may peace and blessings be upon you all."
