“The glory of justice and the majesty of law are created… by the men and women who constitute our society.”
— Robert F. Kennedy

Justice is not built by laws alone, but by people who have the courage to uphold them.

As Muslim women in the legal profession, we carry a responsibility rooted in both ‘ilm and amanah—to advocate for justice, lead with integrity, and serve with sincerity. Islamic leadership reminds us that leadership is not about authority, but about responsibility, sacrifice, and service to others.

May we continue to use our knowledge, our voices, and our positions to uphold what is just and beneficial for our communities. ⚖️🤍

Pumbaya Law participated in the second-day Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the proposed bill entitled, “An Act Defining Acts or Omissions Falling Under Ta’zir and Providing Penalties Thereof,” introduced by the late Atty. Hamid Aminoddin D. Barra (Rahimahullāh).

The discussion was meaningful and engaging, with Atty. Jashim Abdulrahman, Dean of KFCIAAS, delivering a lecture on the salient features of the proposed bill, followed by thoughtful discussions, comments, and recommendations from the participants.

We are grateful to Bangsamoro Attorney General’s Office for including Pumbaya Law among the more than twenty participants invited to take part in this important FGD. We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to a discussion that may have a lasting impact on the development and strengthening of the Shari’ah legal system in the Philippines.

May ALLAH (SWT) accept this effort and make it a lasting hasanah and sadaqah jāriyah for everyone who contributed, especially the late Atty. Barra. May its benefits continue to reach the Ummah and future generations. Ameen!

Pumbaya Law proudly participated in the Focus Group Discussion on the Development of the Proposed Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility for Shari’ah Counselors-at-Law held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The activity gathered distinguished members of the Shari’ah legal community, including Hon. Judge Aboali J. Cali, Hon. Judge Norhasima S. Curo, esteemed lawyers, Atty. Jashim, Dean of the King Faisal Center for Islamic, Arabic and Asian Studies (KFCIAAS), Atty. Barodi, Dean of the MSU College of Law, representatives of the Integrated Shari’ah Bar of the Philippines, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), and other Shari’ah legal practitioners.

The discussion was both meaningful and engaging, as participants carefully reviewed, commented on, recommended amendments to, and refined the proposed Code of Ethics. Every insight shared reflected our collective aspiration to uphold the highest standards of integrity, competence, professionalism, and accountability in the practice of Shari’ah law.

As Muslims, we are guided by the Islamic principles of taqwa, amanah, ‘adl, ihsan, sidq, ‘ilm, rahmah, karamah, sulh and islah. These principles must continue to define the conduct of every Shari’ah Counselor-at-Law and strengthen public confidence in the administration of justice.

Pumbaya Law is honored to contribute to this important undertaking. We remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing the Shari’ah legal system in the Philippines and to helping shape a Code of Ethics that will inspire excellence, protect the dignity of the profession, and serve as a lasting legacy for future generations of Shari’ah Counselors-at-Law.

Together, we build a stronger, more principled, and more responsive Shari’ah justice system for our Muslim communities.
