The Central Mindanao University โ Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (CMU-IPTBM) participated in the 1st Freedom to Operate (FOB) Meeting for CMU flour premix technologies, hosted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region X on January 27, 2026, via Zoom from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
The meeting focused on the proposed technology transfer transaction of CMU-developed food technologies, specifically the Banana Brownies Premix and the Banana Cookies Premix, intended for licensing to Boloc-Boloc Bakehouse. The activity provided a platform to review key commercialization requirements, including the Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA), intellectual property valuation, and business plan, to ensure the technologiesโ readiness for industry adoption.
Representing CMU-IPTBM were Vellorimo J. Suminguit, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (OIPTBM) and Program Leader of the RAISE Program in Northern Mindanao; Gamaliela A. Dumancas, Ph.D., Chief of the Technology Transfer Unit of OIPTBM and Project Staff of RAISE Project 1; Annie Deriada, Ph.D., Project Leader of RAISE Project 2 โ Agri Business Hub; Sheila C. Poonon, MAM, Chief, Technology Business Incubation Unit, Project Leader, Project 3 Regional ATBI; and Queenie Ann L. Curayag, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Food Research, Innovation and Extension and technology maker of the flour premix innovations.
During the meeting, Dr. Curayag presented the technical features of the premixes, highlighting their formulation, nutritional profile, and processing parameters. Dr. Dumancas provided the intellectual property background, including the Technology Licensing Agreement for the premixes. Dr. Deriada discussed the business plan and conducted the IP valuation, demonstrating the commercial potential and market-readiness of the products.
The 1st FOB Meeting aimed to facilitate informed decision-making on the transfer of CMU technologies by assessing their technical, legal, and commercial viability, while ensuring compliance with institutional and DOST guidelines. The activity further strengthened academeโindustry partnerships and underscored CMUโs commitment to translating research outputs into market-ready innovations that support the agri-food sector.
This engagement contributes to the objectives of the RAISE Program by advancing technology commercialization, promoting innovation-driven enterprises, and reinforcing CMU-IPTBMโs role in building a responsive and sustainable regional innovation ecosystem.
