🎀MYTHS vs FACTS about HIV
🧠 Let’s bust the most common HIV myths!
Because knowledge saves lives and fighting stigma starts with the truth. 💪
❌ MYTH 1: You can get HIV from hugging, kissing, or touching someone with HIV.
✅ FACT: HIV cannot spread through casual contact — hugs, handshakes, or kisses. It spreads only through specific body fluids (blood, semen, vaginal fluids, re**al fluids, and breast milk) from a person with HIV.
❌ MYTH 2: HIV can be transmitted through saliva, sweat, or tears.
✅ FACT: HIV is not found in significant amounts in saliva, sweat, or tears — it’s impossible to get infected that way.
❌ MYTH 3: You can tell if someone has HIV just by looking at them.
✅ FACT: You can’t. People with HIV often look completely healthy. The only way to know is through testing.
❌ MYTH 4: Only certain groups of people get HIV (like LGBTQ+, s*x workers, or drug users).
✅ FACT: Anyone — regardless of gender, s*xuality, or lifestyle — can get HIV. It depends on behavior, not identity.
❌ MYTH 5: HIV means you have AIDS.
✅ FACT: HIV and AIDS are not the same. HIV is a virus; AIDS is the most advanced stage of infection if untreated. With proper treatment, most people with HIV never develop AIDS.
❌ MYTH 6: There’s no treatment for HIV.
✅ FACT: HIV has no cure yet, but antiretroviral therapy (ART) allows people with HIV to live long, healthy lives — often with a normal lifespan.
❌ MYTH 7: If you’re on HIV treatment, you can still transmit HIV easily.
✅ FACT: If a person with HIV takes medication consistently and maintains an undetectable viral load, they cannot transmit HIV s*xually. This is known as U = U (Undetectable = Untransmittable).
❌ MYTH 8: HIV can spread through sharing toilets, swimming pools, or food.
✅ FACT: HIV doesn’t survive outside the body and can’t spread through water, air, or shared objects like toilets, utensils, or pools.
❌ MYTH 9:Getting tested for HIV is scary or pointless.
✅ FACT: Testing is quick, confidential, and empowering. Early detection leads to early treatment and better health outcomes.
❌ MYTH 10: HIV means your life is over.
✅ FACT: People living with HIV can study, work, love, and live fulfilling, healthy lives. With treatment, HIV is manageable just like other chronic conditions.
