Today, February 23, 2026, IBP leaders convened to discuss the trial run of the IBP Pro Bono Portal (PBP)—the IBP’s first web-based platform designed to streamline and expand access to free legal aid services online.

We are proud to share that our partner, Burt M. Estrada, Former IBP President and IBP NCLA Deputy Director for Indigenous Peoples, participated in this important initiative alongside:

• Allan G. Panolong, IBP President
• Manuel Joseph B. Ibañez III, IBP NCLA Overall Deputy Director & National Director for Chapter Affairs
• Liezl Z. Parajas, ABAROLI Country Representative

The Pro Bono Portal marks a significant step toward modernizing legal aid delivery and strengthening access to justice, particularly for underserved communities.

We look forward to sharing more developments as this initiative moves forward.

Our founding partner, Atty. Burt M. Estrada, recognized for a legacy of principled leadership, service, and excellence in the legal profession. ⚖️👏

🏛️⚖️ RECOGNITION, EVEN IF BELATED:
HONORING ATTY. BURT M. ESTRADA ⚖️🏛️

Excellence does not fade with time—nor does service.

The Xavier Ateneo Law Alumni Association, Inc. (XALAAI) was formally established only in 2024, decades after the founding of the Xavier Ateneo School of Law. For many years, the achievements of Xavier Ateneo Law alumni—particularly those who rendered distinguished service to the legal profession and the nation—stood as enduring markers of excellence, recognized by the public and the profession, yet without a formal alumni institution to collectively honor them.

With its formal organization, XALAAI resolved to correct this absence. One of its founding commitments is to formally recognize alumni achievements, even if belatedly—affirming that excellence and service deserve acknowledgment regardless of the passage of time.

In fulfillment of this commitment, XALAAI honors one of its most distinguished alumni:

🌟 ATTY. BURT M. ESTRADA 🌟
National President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) (2021–2023)

Atty. Burt M. Estrada is a distinguished alumnus of the Xavier Ateneo School of Law whose career exemplifies principled leadership, inclusive justice, and unwavering dedication to the legal profession. He served as National President of the IBP, leading the organization during a critical period and strengthening its role in upholding the rule of law, professional integrity, and access to justice nationwide.

Beyond his national bar leadership, Atty. Estrada has devoted his professional life to legal aid, indigenous peoples’ advocacy, legal education, and institution-building. He has served as Deputy Director for Indigenous Peoples Concerns of the IBP–National Center for Legal Aid, National Executive Vice President and Governor for Eastern Mindanao, and Chapter President of IBP Bukidnon, and continues to be a respected lawyer, educator, and community leader.

In recognition of his distinguished leadership and service, Atty. Estrada was formally honored during the Juris Doctor Conferment Exercises and the 1st Grand Alumni Homecoming of the Xavier Ateneo School of Law, held in 2024 at the Atrium, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City—a landmark occasion that bridged generations and reaffirmed the enduring legacy of Xavier Ateneo legal education.

This recognition is not merely ceremonial. It is a reaffirmation of XALAAI’s mission: to remember, to honor, and to inspire—and a tribute to a life of leadership that continues to shape the legal profession and the communities it serves.

👏 Congratulations, Atty. Burt M. Estrada.
Your legacy of service brings honor to the Xavier Ateneo School of Law and inspiration to generations of legal professionals, advocates, and community leaders.

National Legal Aid Summit
Day 3 | Paradise Garden Hotel, Boracay Island

"It has been said that 'those who have less in life should have more in law'. But to access those benefits under various social legislations they need more lawyers. This is why we do developmental legal aid."

It has been said that “those who have less in life should have more in law.” For Indigenous Peoples, this rings especially true. While our laws recognize their rights to ancestral domains, culture, and self-determination, these protections often remain inaccessible without legal guidance and representation.

This is why we do developmental legal aid, to stand with Indigenous communities, help them navigate complex legal systems, protect their ancestral rights, and ensure that the law serves as a shield rather than a barrier. Where history has denied access, lawyers help restore justice and dignity.

Day 2 | NCLA Summit 2026

Atty. Burt facilitated an in-depth discussion on Indigenous Peoples (IPs), underscoring the empowerment of IP communities through the protection of their rights, preservation of cultural integrity, and strengthening of legal safeguards. The session highlighted the value of cooperatives and sustained capacity-building initiatives as key drivers of inclusive and community-led development.

He also shared insights on the Inclusive Growth through Inclusive Business (IGIB) Project, drawing from the lived experience of his own tribe through the cooperative journey of BUKTAMACO. This real-world example illustrated how inclusive business models and cooperatives can advance economic participation while remaining anchored in IP traditions and statutory protections.

National Legal Aid Summit
Day 2 | Paradise Garden Hotel, Boracay Island

"I am very positive that, with all our hand work.., we will make a difference in the fight against corruption"

The Anti-Corruption Breakout Session reaffirmed that integrity is not achieved by policy alone, but through sustained action, vigilance, and collaboration among legal professionals, institutions, and communities. By sharing practical strategies, strengthening accountability mechanisms, and committing to ethical leadership, this session empowered participants to move beyond discussion toward concrete reforms.

Together, our efforts can help restore public trust, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that justice is delivered without fear, favor, or compromise.
