Advice to people who want to work abroad

Working abroad is a challenge and exciting for those who want to give bright future for their loved ones. However, in order to achieve this goal you have to consider these things:

- You must have the determination to pursue your goal working abroad;
- You must have a strong work ethics. This will help you for promotion and future recommendation;
- You should know what you want both personally and professionally – what you will get from working abroad;
- When applying for work abroad, be sure that the job offer is legitimate as well as the recruitment agency. Check it first with the POEA.

Here are some tips on how not to get fooled by fake recruitment agencies:

a. Always check the recruitment agency’s name with the POEA if it is registered or has been issued a license (must still be valid or not yet expired);
b. Ask for an office address and verify if the address given is existing or not;
c. Be suspicious if they ask you about your financial account numbers and any other personal details that is not needed in the application for work abroad;
d. Do not pay or send any amount of money to any unfamiliar individual;
e. Check the company’s website and look for the contact number. Once you have the contact number of the company abroad, contact for verification if the job offer that the recruitment agency has offered is legitimate;
f. Keep all the papers such as contract or agreement made between you and the agency for future reference in case you encounter a problem;
g. Be cautious if the agent asks for a large amount of money for the placement fee;
h. Do not deal with the fixers. It is better to go directly to a legitimate agency than to gamble your future.
