Strengthening legal literacy and safeguarding initiatives: A Basic Legal Awareness Session was successfully conducted with Edmund Rice Ministries Foundation Philippines, Inc., in partnership with the IBP–Southern Leyte Chapter and TCM–Office of the Legal Aid.

Led by Atty. Jana Felice Gonzalez-Sas, the session covered fundamental constitutional rights, laws on VAWC, child protection, and legal safeguards for Persons with Disabilities and Indigenous Peoples.

Looking forward to further collaborations in advancing community protection, empowerment, and access to justice.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Southern Leyte Chapter, in partnership with the College of Maasin Legal Aid Office, will conduct a FREE Legal Aid Caravan to provide proper and adequate legal assistance, particularly to constituents who are unable to afford legal services.

January 31, 2026 (Saturday)
10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
San Ricardo Central Elementary School Gymnasium

Services to be provided include:
• Free legal consultations and legal advice
• Free drafting of simple affidavits, such as Affidavits of Loss and Affidavits of Damage to Property
• Free notarial services for simple affidavits

Please note that commercial legal documents are not covered.

The CM - Office of the Legal Aid conducted a lecture on the latest amendments and jurisprudence on RA 1105 known as the “Anti-Hazing Act of 2008”, RA 7877 known as “Anti-sexual Harrasment Act of 1995”, RA 11313 known as “The Safe Spaces Act”, and RA 8353 known as “The Anti-R**e Law of 1997”.

The lecture was attended by the second-year BS Criminology students from SLSU-Sogod, Southern Leyte on May 22, 2025.

The lecture holds great significance for these students, who will soon serve as the men and women in uniform tasked with protecting the rights and safety of every citizen.

The College of Maasin, College of Law-Office of the Legal Aid (OLA) together with the (IBP) Integrated Bar of the Philippines So. Leyte chapter headed by Atty. Edon Lescabo in collaboration with Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office (SLPPO) spearheaded by PMAJ RYAN JILL MERQUITA, C,HRAO in celebration of Human Rights Month conducted legal aid and lecture at Brgy. Nava, Hinunangan, So. Leyte on December 9, 2024. The said event was graced by the people of Brgy. Nava and nearby Barangays.
In addition, law student practitioners with Supervising Lawyer (SL), Atty. Jana Gonzalez-Sas, also conducted a lecture about International Human Rights Law (IHL) which the visitors actively participated in.

College of Maasin, College of Law-Office of the Legal Aid wanted to extend our gratitude to the people of Brgy. Nava, Hinunangan So. Leyte; Integrated Bar of the Philippines So. Leyte chapter; Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office; Hinunangan Municipal Police Station; and to all who participated in the event.

The TCM - Office of the Legal Aid conducted a lecture on amendments and latest jurisprudence on RA No. 8353, known as "The Anti-R**e Law of 1997", and RA No. 9208 or "Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003" on November 15, 2024 at the SLPPO Compound in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
