The Intellectual Property Management Division (IPMD), in collaboration with the Bicol University Legal Office, spearheaded BU-LINK (Bicol University – Licensing, IP Navigation, and Knowledge Transfer): An Intellectual Property Rights Orientation for MSMEs, Student organization, and other possible partners on March 11, 2026, at the Bicol Regional Food Innovation Center, BU East Campus, Legazpi City. This initiative reaffirmed Bicol University’s commitment to innovation, intellectual property protection, and responsible knowledge transfer. With the university’s expanding portfolio of protected technologies and creative works, the activity was designed to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), student organizations, and other potential partners by equipping them with essential knowledge on intellectual property rights (IPR) and technology transfer mechanisms.
Conducted as a one-day, face-to-face program, BU-LINK combined lectures and interactive sessions to maximize participant engagement. Following registration, the opening program featured the Invocation, National Anthem, and welcome remarks from Dr. Nicanor B. Balbin, Director of IPMD, alongside an introduction of the participants and overview of activities by Atty. Daryl A. Redoblado. Two topics were delivered during the morning sessions: The Overview of Bicol University’s Protected Intellectual Property, delivered by Prof. Zaira G. Bataller, Technical Staff of BU-IPMD, and Intellectual Property Infringement and Its Implications, presented by Atty. Daryl A. Redoblado, Bicol University Legal Officer. The afternoon sessions continued with: Technology Transfer of Protected IP by Prof. Crestia Bañares, Technical Staff of BU-CTCED, and The Ethical Use of Intellectual Property by Atty. Daryl A. Redoblado. These lectures provided participants with a deeper understanding of the university’s IP portfolio, the importance of safeguarding it, and the ethical use of IP in their projects and activities, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and proper use of IP. An open forum followed, allowing participants to raise questions, clarify issues, and explore opportunities for collaboration. It also includes some key takeaways from the selected participants.
BU-LINK concluded with a shared commitment to protect innovation, uphold ethical collaboration, and advance regional progress through the responsible use of intellectual property. We believe that Intellectual Property that is worth copying is worth protecting.
