🚨 AUSTRALIA’S VISA APPEAL SYSTEM IS CHANGING 🇦🇺
Big updates to the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) could affect how some visa refusal appeals are decided.
📄 Certain temporary visa review cases may now be decided WITHOUT an oral hearing — meaning decisions could be made based on documents and written submissions alone.
Who may be affected first?
🎓 Student visa refusal reviews (expected once regulations take effect)
The ART may decide “on the papers” if:
✅ Documents are enough to assess the case
✅ It’s considered reasonable
✅ Applicants are given a fair chance to submit evidence
NOT affected:
✔️ Permanent visa reviews
✔️ Protection visa reviews
What this means for applicants 👇
Your supporting documents, evidence, and written submissions may become MORE important than ever.
The reforms aim to reduce backlogs and speed up processing times — but they may also change how applicants prepare for appeals.
