If someone had told me years ago that I would enjoy running, I probably would have laughed. I was a self-confessed couch potato. But as I entered my 40s, I began to appreciate the value of health and fitness not just for myself, but because I want to be present for my children through all of life's highs, lows, and milestones.

Today, I joined my first community run with Run Aklan. Like my previous 5K runs, I came alone and ran solo. Yet, what I discovered is that when you take that first step out of your comfort zone, you are never truly alone. There is a whole community cheering you on and helping you reach the finish line.

As a lawyer, I have also learned that an active lifestyle does wonders beyond physical health. It brings clarity of mind, a more positive disposition, and the endurance needed to keep going in a demanding profession.

To every woman and to anyone who has been hesitant to start: it is never too late. It's okay to begin alone. It's okay to be a beginner. The important thing is to start.

You may be surprised by what you find on the other side: strength you never knew you had, and a version of yourself that is capable of so much more.

Your future self will thank you for it. ❤️🏃‍♀️
