JUST IN! MCTA Law Group conducted a discussion-filled seminar on the fundamentals of the Data Privacy Act of 2012, led by one of our associates, Atty. Renato T. Muńez, Jr. Among the topics discussed were the basic concepts of data privacy, rights of data subjects, criteria for lawful processing, penalties for non-compliance, registration with the National Privacy Commission, and the practical application of the concepts of Personal Information Controller, Personal Information Processor, and Data Subjects, among others. The participants were representatives from a pharmacy, a BPO company, security agency, utilities services provider and medical distribution company (all of whom consented to their inclusion in the pictures of this post). Just in! The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have now officially entered into an agreement to share each other's data to run against those who are not compliant with corporate regulations and tax laws. Specifically, both government agencies aim to share information on corporate and tax records. Per the PNA: "Among corporate documents that the BIR can have real-time access to are Articles of Incorporation, General Information Sheets (GIS), and Annual Financial Statements (AFS)." With this update, it is advisable for our Iloilo based corporate clients and stakeholders to ensure that their records with both the SEC and BIR are aligned and contain minimal to zero discrepancies to avoid a joint investigation from both government agencies.

Bilang alternatibo, maaari ring isa-isahing inotify ng kompanya ang mga kliyente nito sa pamamagitan ng awtorisadong paraan ng komunikasyon.
