THE LEGAL PROFESSION IS NOBLE BECAUSE IT CARRIES A DUTY TO JUSTICE
In the Philippines, the practice of law is a regulated profession, earned through legal education, admission to the Bar, and a continuing obligation to uphold the law and professional ethics.
That is why a lawyer’s professional identity should be independently verifiable.
A LAWYER’S NAME CAN BE STOLEN. YOUR MONEY CAN BE TOO.
Fraudulent accounts may appropriate a lawyer’s name, photographs, professional information, or legal content to create a false appearance of legitimacy. In some cases, such deception may be used to obtain personal information, money, or other financial benefits through misrepresentation or fraud.
A social media profile, professional photograph, legal terminology, or display of wealth is not proof of authority to practice law.
Do not rely on appearance. Verify the person.
Before entrusting anyone with your legal concerns, documents, or money, independently verify their professional identity through authoritative sources, including the Supreme Court’s Lawyers List and Roll of Attorneys, and confirm claimed Bar admission and IBP affiliation where appropriate.
Do not rely solely on certificates, screenshots, IDs, or other credentials supplied by the person claiming to be a lawyer.
If someone becomes evasive, threatening, or financially demanding when asked for basic professional verification, treat that as a serious warning sign—not as proof of legal authority.
In law, identity matters. Verify before you trust.
