🔍 Key Changes in Tax on Interest Income under CMEPA (RA 12214)
1. Uniform Final Withholding Tax (FWT) Rate of 20%
• All interest income from peso deposit accounts is now subject to a flat 20% FWT, regardless of the term or holding period.
• This removes the previous tiered tax rates (0%, 5%, 12%, or 20%) that applied to long-term deposits depending on how long the money was held.
2. Higher Tax on Foreign Currency Deposits
• Interest income from foreign currency deposits (e.g., USD accounts) is now taxed at 20%, up from the previous 15%.
