Salonga Law Center Holds “Tingog sa Kabataan: Pagtudlo sa Katungod sa mga Bata sa Pilipinas” at Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School
On March 6, 2026, the Salonga Law Center conducted a legal symposium entitled “Tingog sa Kabataan: Pagtudlo sa Katungod sa mga Bata sa Pilipinas” at Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School along W. Rovira Drive in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. The activity aimed to introduce elementary students to their rights and responsibilities under the Child and Youth Welfare Code and to raise awareness of the importance of protecting children’s welfare.
The program gathered students, teachers, and Salonga Law Center Senior High School volunteers for an afternoon of learning and engagement. The symposium began with the registration of participants, followed by an opening prayer and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Isabella Therese B. Calis delivered the welcoming remarks and introduced the purpose of the activity, emphasizing the importance of educating young people about their rights and responsibilities.
The lecture proper focused on the provisions of the Child and Youth Welfare Code, particularly Article 3, which outlines the Rights of the Child, and Article 4, which discusses the Responsibilities of the Child. The topics were presented in segments by Salonga Law Center Senior High School volunteers Julia Marie G. Sarenas, Juliana Marie A. Bahinting, Lance T. Solon, and Isabella Therese B. Calis. Through these discussions, the students were guided in understanding how their rights protect their well-being and how their responsibilities help them contribute positively to their families, schools, and communities.
To further engage the students, the program included an interactive charades activity facilitated by the speakers and volunteers, followed by an open forum where participants were encouraged to ask questions and share their insights about the topics discussed.
During the program, Mikhail Lee Maxino, Director of the Salonga Law Center, also shared his thoughts on the importance of educating children about their legal rights. He highlighted that awareness of these rights empowers young people to protect themselves, respect others, and grow into responsible citizens who can contribute to society.
The activity concluded with closing remarks and a photo opportunity with the participants. The Salonga Law Center is honored to have conducted the symposium and to have engaged with the students of Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School. The event reflects the Center’s continued commitment to legal education, community outreach, and the promotion of children’s rights and welfare.
