Yesterday’s filing before RTC Cebu City. While the practice of law carries with it responsibilities imbued with public interests, there is beauty in learning its complexities especially when defending and advocating for someone to be able to live life meaningfully.

At times, the law may appear harsh, but it is the same instrument that preserves and protects one’s life.

Yesterday was a busy day. I facilitated a meeting with SKF President and City Councilor, Hon. Rhea P. Jakosalem and Mr. Regour Reoma for a private pitching that will benefit the SK Federation and the SKs from the different barangays. In there, I was asked to provide my insights, so both parties are legally guided, while navigating through mutually beneficial undertakings.

Thereafter, as the newly-appointed Chairperson of the Anti-Discrimination Commission of the City of Cebu, I also presided over the 2nd session of the Commission that was participated by Commissioners from the different offices and organizations — government, private sectors, and civil society organizations. The session focused on the legality of the appointments, the PPAs for the celebration of the Anti-Discrimination Week, the awareness campaign on the different laws prohibiting and penalizing discrimination, and the early preparations needed for PRIDE Month celebration in June.

To be a significant part of all these is both an accomplishment and a recognition of how far I have gone as a young public servant. That while contributing, I am also learning and building the knowledge and character necessary for a greater cause of uplifting and protecting the lives of the public.

Truly, there is always pleasure in sincerely and honestly doing one’s part even without recognition, and even without intending to do it for any return. 💙

Earlier today, the Cebu City Special Price Monitoring and Consumer Protection Body had their first meeting. Several key measures were discussed to ensure that a collective approach yields fair and reasonable prices of several commodities including basic goods, fuel, gasoline, and other agricultural products. The body has been convened pending the completion of the members of the Local Price Coordinating and Monitoring Council of Cebu City to provide policy direction and undertake proactive measures as the people of Cebu City navigate through the fluctuations in the market.

In the meeting, I, together with my colleague — Atty. Dwight Remedio, was called to provide legal clarity and guidance as well as administrative support to the decisions arrived at by the body.

Honored to have been visited by Atty. Lecel Llamedo, Assistant Regional Director of NAPOLCOM Region VII.

We had comprehensive discussions on the constitution of People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) in Cebu City and its significance in strengthening accountability, transparency, and integrity in police operations.

In the meeting, we were joined by Sir Arnel Tancinco, former Regional Director of LTO VII and who is now the Chief-of-Staff of the Office of Councilor Gen. Paul Labra and Atty. Llamedo’s staff.

Women cannot be reduced to someone else’s imagination.

Not in the halls of power.
Not in public discourse.
Not anywhere.

Women are leaders, workers, creators, thinkers, and builders of this country. They deserve respect, dignity, and equal space in shaping our society.

This Women’s Month, we reject the many ways women are diminished and affirm their dignity, voice, and power in shaping our communities.

In celebration of the Cebu City's Charter Day (February 24, 2026) and EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary (February 25, 2026), below are important implications on compensation, duty, and payroll compliance of the two different holidays.

Not all “special holidays” are legally treated the same.

Under Republic Act No. 7287, February 24 is declared as a Special Non-Working Holiday in Cebu City (Charter Day). In contrast, February 25, 2026 pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 1066, Series of 2025, is declared as a Special Working Holiday (EDSA People Power Anniversary).

Understanding these classifications is essential for employers, HR practitioners, payroll officers, and employees alike to ensure compliance with labor standards and to safeguard lawful compensation.

Clarity in the law prevents confusion in practice. Thus, being informed materially helps.

Executive orders, memoranda, appointments, legal opinions, and all other types of documents in between.

On weekdays, I am mounting these. On week nights and weekends, I am hurdling paperworks for my private practice. Yes, it is tiring, but life has been so good.

And yes again! With or without a position, public service takes different forms. ⚖️💪🏻

Over the past few days, I have been so busy juggling work in City Hall, private practice, and extending legal assistance to communities and students who need guidance in navigating through legal hurdles.

Were they tiring? Yes, physically. Do I feel accomplished doing them? Yes, genuinely.

Point is, no noble work is ever easy. Doing the things you love with pure intentions and getting tired is better, even normal, than embracing comfort without meaningful purpose.

Public service knows no position. With or without it, I choose to be of service to others in my humble capacity and through genuine means.

Today, the day of welcoming new lawyers arrives not simply as news, but as a reminder of why the law exists.

To those who passed: you now carry a name, a title, and a responsibility that extend far beyond yourself. Your entry into the profession is a quiet but powerful assurance that the law still has room for conscience, courage, and compassion - especially for those who have long stood at its margins.

I hope you remember that lawyering was never meant to be ornamental. It was meant to serve. Let the principles you learned in law school remain steady when practice becomes demanding, when shortcuts appear convenient, and when standing for what is right comes at a cost.

As you step into this calling, may you bring with you an identity that distinguishes you - not in how loudly you speak, but in how firmly you stand; not in how many cases you win, but in whose lives you help restore.

May your practice be anchored on noble causes. May your voice be used for those who cannot yet be heard. And may your passing of the Bar always remind you that hope, once earned, must now be shared.

Welcome to the profession! The work begins now.

Fellow public servants from Barangay Apas visited our office for legal and administrative guidance and assistance. We also had a short catching up as it has already been months since my last visit in their office.

Good to see you, Kons Beth Maña and GAD Focal Dexter Anthony Sabandon! 😁

Yesterday, I assisted a client in filing three different cases before the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor. Today, I am appearing as a defense counsel for a client’s case that I am handling pro bono in Moalboal, Cebu.

Lawyering is tiring, but the fulfillment of being able to serve the marginalized and underprivileged is beyond compare. ⚖️
